A tennis reporter who said Novak Djokovic chose a “strange hill to die on” by refusing to get vaccinated has died suddenly.
“Mike Dickson, an esteemed sportswriter with the Daily Mail, has collapsed and died in Melbourne while covering the Australian Open,” reports the Telegraph.
Dickson was 59-years-old. The cause of his death has not been revealed.
After learning of his sudden passing, numerous people on X pointed out that Dickson had vehemently criticized men’s world number 1 Novak Djokovic for refusing to get the COVID jab.
In an article for the Daily Mail, Dickson said the Serbian champion had chosen a “strange hill to die on” by resisting the vaccine under immense pressure.
“If Djokovic is to be excluded from many tournaments for the foreseeable future — and a lot could yet change — this is a strange hill for his hopes to die on,” wrote Dickson in February 2022.
“Most tennis players have now accepted, some albeit reluctantly, that they and their sport are best served by taking a vaccine that has saved countless lives,” he added.
Djokovic himself responded to the news of Dickson’s death by posting on X, “Condolences to Mike Dickson family. Rest in Peace.”
Meanwhile, during the tennis legend’s most recent match, someone in the audience shouted “get vaccinated, Novak” in an attempt to put him off.
Djokovic responded by slamming an ace to win the contest.

Novak is the GOAT of tennis and bodily autonomy. He was gracious for offering condolences to Dicksons family. Highly recommend reading his only autobiography about why he is so mentally and physically strong: https://yuribezmenov.substack.com/p/novak-djokovic-servetowin-devotion
In the end, it's the reporter who chose the wrong hill.
And Djokovic, who deserves an apology from many people, will never get one.
