As a healthcare professional for 25 years have seen the roll out of the ICD codes over the years. The ICD 10 code set is very specific in what it asks for and it behooves the medical professional to stay focused on what the patient complaint is and stick to that. That way only the very specific pertinent non-broad information is gathered. This helps to keep the medical information of the patient shielded from unnecessary scrutiny by “stakeholders”. There are ways to protect those who come to us for help.

A very good friend of mine has a 106 year old mother. She takes ZERO medications. At her 100 year birthday party I asked her why she believes she has lived such a long and healthy life. She said 1. stay thin 2. stay away from doctors because they will kill you. Such a wise woman and still gardening, knitting, sewing, crocheting and making huge jigsaw puzzles.
