If the majority of those 20% were people already retired, too old or too sick to work, or children and those who didn't have a job, than those deaths could not affect that much the economy. There were still enough people left to work, just like in Canada. The number of deaths although statistically very high and significant, in real number they aren't visible that the everyday folks.

NZer here, not sure where the 20% deaths is coming from, that would be 1 million people or one in five people. Being charitable, it may be a misquote from a percentage increase in all cause mortality. Can be quite damaging when misinterpreted figures are quoted as facts, brings us all into disrepute. Steve Hisch has been all over this data and he estimates that it shows 1 death per thousand doses given. I think that is probably about right, fits with other information that's been studied. They are not going to be able too keep a lid on this, too many people have suffered adverse events. I saw an advert today from a pharmacy chain, get the new booster so you don't get covid for Christmas (eye roll). The comments gave me hope. As for our governments references to the data reveal, yeah, the usual mantras, safe and effective and nothing to see here folks. I don't think their mantras are quite cutting the mustard anymore.
