it is important to understand that Pandemics using a coronavirus are not likely and probably biologically impossible. Here's why:
One has to understand that all lab experiments start with creating chimeric RNA infectious clones from cDNA, to run experiments. This is required in order to share the viral sequence around the world and to replicate experiments by other scientists.
Those infectious clones disseminate into a viral quasispecies swarm once they start replicating in the host species. The replication of RNA has a high error rate. Thus the original RNA sequence is lost soon, meaning it's very hard to capture and sequence in full length from a wild sample hidden in an always evolving viral swarm. Also a lot of RNA fragments are not replication competent and can not cause harm.
A virus in the wild is in no way comparable with lab derived pure high fidelity infectious clones.
Even if a new virus will be seeded one day, it can only be from a lab derived infectious clone. In sufficient quantity released it may cause some illness or death in a local infection cluster and will burn out fast. In no way it will be able to travel the world and cause a pandemic.
To create the appearance of a pandemic one would have to seed at multiple places in short order.
Then to maintain the illusion of a pandemic over many months or years one would have to use nonspecific PCR tests that amplify conserved shared epitopes of the common coronavirus that has been in circulation globally since hundreds of millions or billions of years. This way one would create a lot of positive cases that have nothing to do with the original infectious clone that got seeded someplace.
All you may have read about gain of function experiments, animal passage to create more leathal pathogens and creating biological weapons with coronaviruses are biologically implausible and very likely impossible.
