The world is entering a decade of tumult as the pursuit of a more just world order clashes with the arbitrary hegemony of the collective West, Russian President Vladimir Putin said on Thursday, addressing the annual meeting of the Valdai Discussion Club.
Putin’s speech ranged from biodiversity to “cancel culture,” the nature of what the West has to offer and Russia’s response, followed by hours of answering audience questions. Here are six key points from his opening remarks.
Russia’s move away from dollar ‘irreversible’ – leading banker
Andrei Kostin says the country’s foreign trade has shifted to settlement in national currencies
Russia is moving away from using the US dollar and euro in foreign trade, a process that is “irreversible,” claimed Andrei Kostin, the head of VTB Bank, one of Russia’s largest lenders.
“Quitting the US dollar and euro is already an irreversible process for Russia. Taking into account the current trend, our main foreign trade partners in the medium term will be China, the EAEU countries, Turkey, India, Middle East, Latin America, and Africa. Switching to national currencies in trade with this particular group of countries is the top priority for us,” Kostin said at the Eurasian Economic Forum in Baku on Thursday.

US President Joe Biden voiced skepticism over Moscow’s assurances against the use of nuclear weapons, just hours after the Russian leader argued that his country has no logical reason to take such a drastic step, and accused the West of shaping public opinion to blame Russia for a possible “nuclear incident” in Ukraine.
Asked about Russian President Vladimir Putin’s comments earlier on Thursday that Moscow has nothing to gain from deploying nuclear weapons in Ukraine, Biden answered with a question of his own, saying: “if he has no intention, why does he keep talking about it?”

As Bloomberg just reported, the Pentagon's new National Defense Strategy rejects limits on using nuclear weapons long championed by arms control advocates (and, in the not too distant past, by Joe Bide) citing burgeoning threats from Russia and China.
“By the 2030s the United States will, for the first time in its history face two major nuclear powers as strategic competitors and potential adversaries,” the Defense Department said in the long-awaited document issued Thursday. In response, the US will “maintain a very high bar for nuclear employment” without ruling out using the weapons in retaliation to a non-nuclear strategic threat to the homeland, US forces abroad or allies.
North Korea fires two ballistic missiles
The US and South Korea claim that a series of recent launches by Pyongyang were carried out in preparation for a nuclear test
North Korea fired two short-range ballistic missiles off its coast on Friday, the latest in a series of launches since the start of this month, the South Korean military has said.
Seoul’s Joint Chiefs of Staff (JCS) said it “detected the launches from the Tongchon area in Kangwon Province.” The Tongchon range is located some 60 km (37 miles) from the inter-Korean border. It appears to be closer to South Korean territory than any other launch site used by Pyongyang this year.

On Wednesday Israel launched yet another missile attack on Damascus, which notably marks the third one against Damascus since Friday. Significantly Friday's attack had been the first major strike in a month - though prior to this the aerial assaults had come semi-regularly.
"Four people collaborating with Hezbollah, including one Syrian fighter, were killed in an attack attributed to Israel on Damascus' outskirts on Wednesday overnight, in the third such strike in less than a week, according to a human rights group in Syria," Haaretz reports. However the Syrian government didn't confirm any casualties.
Ex-Israeli PM Benjamin Netanyahu warns against sending weapons to Ukraine
(Natural News) Former Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has warned against sending weapons to Ukraine as they could easily end up in the hands of the Iranians.

China remains the top national security threat to the US, even as the Ukraine conflict escalates tensions between Washington and Moscow, the Pentagon has reported in its latest annual defense assessment.
“The most comprehensive and serious challenge to US national security is the PRC’s (People’s Republic of China) coercive and increasingly aggressive endeavor to refashion the Indo-Pacific region and the international system to suit its interests and authoritarian preferences,” the Pentagon said on Thursday in its 2022 National Defense Strategy (NDS) report.

In a study of 12 face masks, every mask contained titanium dioxide (TiO2) particles in at least one layer, at levels that “exceeded the acceptable exposure level.”
The International Agency for Research on Cancer classifies titanium dioxide as a Group 2B carcinogen, which means it is “possibly carcinogenic to humans” by inhalation.
A meta-analysis called for a rethinking of nano-TiO2 safety, citing numerous toxic effects in humans and aquatic animals.

Is anyone else weirded out that the US 'Government' is pulling the same 'grade-school-logic' 'blame the other guy for a false flag attack that you are yourself planning to execute'? And that the subject matter is a nuclear or radiological weapon? Bad enough when it was used at the start of the 'war' or over a pipeline, but rattling those sabers?
Russia is no threat to anyone. Except for the nuclear dimension.
