No "good guys" in this movie, the whole farm is completely surrounded by packs of wolves and even the farmers have sided with them, but the livestock is still too afraid to burst out and put an end to the siege, one way or another.
Wolves are smart, resourceful, and are focused on a common interest, to kill the livestock and throw a party afterwards.
The livestock is mostly stupid, non-homogenous and disoriented, does not really have a clue what is happening and is trapped in a honeycomb of small, isolated, personal interests - "i want to keep warm, I want to keep my job, I want to keep my home, It cannot be that bad" - some are even planning to betray their team somehow, and hope to be spared.
There is a common goal - to survive - but there's no focus. Everyone hopes to escape the cull in their own ways, even at everyone else's expense. This is why the livestock is doomed, its force is not strong and vectorial, but weak and broken chaotically.
Only people who have nothing to lose trust each other, because there's nothing to steal. But when we reach that stage, it will be too late.
Dark times ahead, and they will last a long while.
