Elon Musk, the world’s richest man, has finally succeeded in acquiring the social media firm Twitter. The microblogging platform’s board of directors accepted Musk’s $44 billion offer to take the company private.
“Free speech is the bedrock of a functioning democracy, and Twitter is the digital town square where matters vital to the future of humanity are debated,” Musk said in a statement announcing the purchase. “I also want to make Twitter better than ever by enhancing the product with new features, making the algorithms open source to increase trust, defeating the spam bots, and authenticating all humans.”

Starting Monday, a series of terrorist attacks has hit the breakaway region of Transnistria, officially known as the Pridnestrovian Moldavian Republic (PMR), which borders Ukraine, its leader said on Tuesday. Transnistrian President Vadim Krasnoselsky placed the region on terrorist alert, RIA Novosti reported, citing the president's website.
Two back-to-back explosions rocked a broadcasting center in the village of Mayak on Tuesday morning, the region’s interior ministry said. It added that no one was hurt, but the two biggest antennas, which were transmitting Russian radio stations, have been disabled.

Russia’s starting position is that atomic war should be unacceptable and Moscow successfully persuaded the US and other nuclear powers to agree on that back in January, Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov outlined in an interview on Monday. However, he added that the situation has since deteriorated to the point where there is a real and serious threat.
Moscow tried to persuade US President Donald Trump to recommit to the 1987 statement by US and Soviet leaders that there can be no winners in a nuclear war, and that such a war should never be fought, Lavrov explained in the interview with ‘The Great Game’, a political talk show on Russia’s Channel One.

In a major reversal following Chancellor Olaf Scholz only days ago voicing strong resistance, it appears Berlin has bowed to the mounting pressure among allies and approved new tank deliveries to Ukraine from Germany's own stock, which Scholz had previously said was depleted.
The German Ministry of Defense announced Tuesday that delivery of Gepard anti-aircraft tanks to Ukraine has been approved. As part of Scholz's earlier rejection of sending heavy weapons systems, he had cited the potential for the West and Russia sliding into a WW3 and nuclear war scenario.
Reports: Sweden and Finland agree to apply for NATO membership at the same time
Finland and Sweden are preparing to simultaneously submit membership applications to NATO, and could do so as early as mid-May, Nordic media organizations reported Monday.
The Finnish newspaper Iltalehti reports that Sweden "suggested the two countries indicate their willingness to join" the alliance on the same day, and Finland agreed "as long as the Swedish government has made its decision."

After SpaceX founder and Tesla chief executive Elon Musk sealed a deal on Monday to buy Twitter for around $44 billion, users of the social media site flooded it with pictures of the tech billionaire in the company of Ghislaine Maxwell.
Users posted a 2014 photo of Musk and Maxwell, a former girlfriend of the late convicted paedophile Jeffrey Epstein. The British socialite was found guilty on 29 December 2021 of recruiting underage girls to be sexually abused by the billionaire financier between 1994 and 2004 at his various properties.

I see it all as fear mongering. They will amplify the nuclear scare until a world dictatorship will be seen as not only the best, but the only way to end all wars.
No "good guys" in this movie, the whole farm is completely surrounded by packs of wolves and even the farmers have sided with them, but the livestock is still too afraid to burst out and put an end to the siege, one way or another.
Wolves are smart, resourceful, and are focused on a common interest, to kill the livestock and throw a party afterwards.
The livestock is mostly stupid, non-homogenous and disoriented, does not really have a clue what is happening and is trapped in a honeycomb of small, isolated, personal interests - "i want to keep warm, I want to keep my job, I want to keep my home, It cannot be that bad" - some are even planning to betray their team somehow, and hope to be spared.
There is a common goal - to survive - but there's no focus. Everyone hopes to escape the cull in their own ways, even at everyone else's expense. This is why the livestock is doomed, its force is not strong and vectorial, but weak and broken chaotically.
Only people who have nothing to lose trust each other, because there's nothing to steal. But when we reach that stage, it will be too late.
Dark times ahead, and they will last a long while.
