Too little salt is probably more dangerous than too much.

Not that doctors tell you that

As many as 1/3 of hospitalized patients may be diagnosed with hyponatremia. Patients that have orthopedic surgery are most at risk. This happened to my dad after his hip surgery and if it's severe, which his was, it takes awhile to correct it.

Wow. I knew a lot of people who go to hospital get IV saline and feel much better. So electrolyte imbalances seems like a common problem accompanying illnesses. My spouse bikes 80 miles in 100 degree heat and one time I had to get him because of incapacitating cramps turns out he probably had hyponatremia. He has since routinely added electrolytes to his water bottles.and has not had the cramps.

Hyponatremia or low salt causes problems especially in hot environments where one loses minerals thru sweat.

My wife knew a woman (an acupuncturist of 20+ years who knows more about health than any GP I have ever met) who was told to cut right down on the salt. So she did.

Started losing all her friends. Couldn't work out why. Went back on salt on a holiday wherever, and realised she'd been nuts since she cut the salt out.

Me? I love it, and construct my own from mixes of different salts. Seaweed, herb, pepper, you name it. Loads of it. Blood pressure (I'm 70) that of a young man. Medics are dangerous these days
