"Why do so many christians deny deadly intent," she asks. Malone's new book, Lies My Government Told Me, includes a paragraph describing reality as perception based on a mental model each of us constructs, and we compare the evidence we see with our senses, against that model. We ignore or refute evidence that disagrees with our model. All religions teach that suffering is necessary and salvation comes later. Some deny the deadly intent of others because their model is to expect others will behave as they do. Others ignore the deadly intent because their model expects it. Religious people need to always be prepared to accept evidence, and react accordingly. It's only those with weak faith who can't tolerate evidence.

For empathetic people, it is nearly impossible to conceive that there is that much evil in others, even if those others demonstrate by word and deed how evil they are. History shows, however, that people are capable of doing the most horrible things to there fellow man.

It always amazes me that no one has ever tried to re-make Terry Gilliam's amazing movie BRAZIL. More than 1984, it was prophetic in describing Western society in 2022.
