Hydroelectric dam in Kherson partially destroyed – mayor

The Kakhovskaya hydroelectric dam in Russia’s Kherson Region, located on the Dnepr River upstream from the city of Kherson, suffered significant damage on Tuesday morning, according to a local official and several videos shared on social media. 

The upper part of the key infrastructure was “destroyed as a result of a strike,” the mayor of Novaya Kakhovka, Vladimir Leontyev, confirmed to RIA Novosti. While several of the dam’s floodgates were damaged and unleashed an uncontrolled stream of water, the underwater structure itself withstood the attack, the official claimed.

The Kakhovka Hydroectric Power Plant's dam has been breached, unleashing millions of tons of freshwater from its reservoir and threatening to cause a regional catastrophe affecting settlements along the Dnepr River, wildlife, and the Zaporozhye nuclear plant. The attack comes after a year of Russian warnings about Ukrainian attacks on the dam.

Tuesday morning's Ukrainian missile strike on the Kakhovka hydroplant was a deliberate act of sabotage by Kiev, and could lead to severe consequences for local residents and the environment, the Kremlin has said.

The water level of the Dnieper River has soared by more than 10 meters in the area of Novaya Kakhovka in Russia’s Kherson Region after a Ukrainian strike seriously damaged a major local hydroelectric dam, authorities said on Tuesday.

Speaking to reporters, Vladimir Leontyev, the head of the local administration, said the attack on the Kakhovka hydroelectric dam could result in the water level rising by as much as 12 meters, but that it is projected to return to normal within three days. “However, we have to survive these 72 hours,” he said.

The Russian Investigative Committee has launched a criminal probe into the Kakhovka Hydro Power Plant’s partial destruction as a result of shelling by Ukrainian forces on June 6. A state of emergency has been introduced in the Kherson region city of Novaya Kakhovka, with the Kremlin calling the attack an “act of sabotage.”

The United States, which has supplied weapons systems like HIMARS to the criminal Kiev regime, is responsible for the attack on the Kakhovka Hydroelectric Power Plant on June 6, Vladimir Evseyev, a military expert, told Sputnik.

“Shocked by the unprecedented attack of the Nova Kakhovka dam,” Michel wrote on Twitter on Tuesday. “The destruction of civilian infrastructure clearly qualifies as a war crime – we will hold Russia and its proxies accountable.”

Russian forces have repelled a renewed large-scale attack by Ukrainian troops in several parts of Donetsk and Zaporozhye Regions, the Defense Ministry in Moscow said in the early hours of Tuesday, claiming that Kiev’s armed formations and military units suffered “significant losses.”

“Having suffered heavy losses the day before, the Kiev regime reorganized the remnants of the 23rd and 31st mechanized brigades into separate combined units, which continued the offensive operations close to Novodarovka and Levadnoye,” said the ministry’s spokesman, Lieutenant General Igor Konashenkov.

WHO Body Calls For 'Simulation' To Prep For Next Global Health Crisis

“We feel very strongly that we cannot wait for the next emergency to find out how well the pandemic accord and the IHR amendments will work; we need to know now,” Joy Phumaphi, co-chair of the GPMB, stated on May 22. “We therefore suggest that Member States, together with other key stakeholders, carry out a simulation exercise based on the draft accord and draft IHR amendments later this year, before they are finalized and adopted.”

WHO is not transparent and doesn’t indicate who its partners are on any project.  They’re not about to start now even on something that severely impacts the daily lives of the entire world’s population, like who is really controlling the data that would be used to declare a global pandemic. So, it’s unclear whether Wellcome Trust is a partner alongside The Rockefeller Foundation.
