Thank the Lord that in 1989 it was illegal for a person who attempted suicide to do so. Or I would be dead. Mine was a call for help but at the time I was in a very dark place. One I didn’t see any exit except death. I am an addict in remission and by the Grace of God, celebrated 19 years on July twenty second, 2024. I could have easily been executed by the state had we had this option available. I wanted to stop using, but I couldn’t. I hurt the ones I loved the most each time I used. My life was a train wreck. I could stop, but I couldn’t stay stopped. If I hadn’t had divine intervention I would have bled out in my shower. That’s why I’ve been following your articles. I thank you and others who are bringing this to light. We have to do everything possible to keep this from spreading to our country. I am speaking from experience and I can guarantee you that most people who are addicts and mentally unstable want to live. Doctors who co-sign this option know this but they seem to have forgotten their pledge to do no harm are in fact doing so with malicious intent.
We are facing more addiction by allowing people in active addiction in believing that their new protocol of “harm reduction “ is the best practice for treating addiction is to reduce their use. It’s beyond belief to think that a person who drinks a or uses other drugs can become a contributing member of society is capable because now instead of two fifths of whiskey a day, they drink one. It will not work. It just keeps the mental health agencies in business because the individual who they profess to be helping are return offenders and they need these people to keep getting federal and state money, as well as pay outs from insurance companies to keep them in business. They no longer are recognizing mandatory 12 step meetings, sponsors, step work and service work for their clients as another way of co-treatment. We are losing people to addiction every single day, hour, and second in our communities and they could care less. I can see this happening. Thank goodness we have President Trump or I think this would become a reality here. There’s much work to be done and I hope we can start treating addiction again. Each and every person deserves a right to life, free from active addiction using the same tools that I use to keep me from using. I have hope that now, instead of euthanatizing sick people we can get back to doing what I know works for me and millions of others. Please keep writing and I will keep sharing. Too bad facebook removes information like yours as spam. I don’t think little Mark was sincere when he pinned his letter to Congress. It’s no longer mis, dis, or malinformation.
