I love your articles, they cause me to put on my “If I were Putin” hat.
Russia 🇷🇺 did not begin a special military operation with the intent of leaving the country of Ukraine 🇺🇦 intact as it is, for a number of valid reasons.
First, the West and the EU has kept dangling the carrot of NATO membership to Ukraine which poses offensive military security threats to Russian geographical borders. If Ukraine joined NATO it would put forward offensive military bases on Russias’ front porch.
Second, Ukraine has failed to fulfill their part in either of the 2014-2015 Minsk agreements. Ukraine has not acknowledged or respected the self-proclaimed (DPR) and (LPR). Leaving Ukraine intact would allow continual hostilities by the Ukrainian nationalists /Nazi’s in the Donbas as they have done since 2014. Ukraine has not acknowledged the ethnically Russian separatist areas or followed the required ceasefire, withdrawal of heavy weapons from the front line, release of prisoners of war, constitutional reform in Ukraine granting self-government to certain areas of Donbas and restoring control of the state border to the Ukrainian government. Instead they have killed over 14,000 people from the Donbas area.
Thirdly, Russia has confirmation of US Pentagon funded class 3-4 bio labs in Ukraine, 4 of which are uncomfortably close to Russia.
Lastly, neither Ukraine nor the West have accepted the annexation of Crimea into the Russian Federation since the vote in 2014. They have rejected the referendum and annexation, adopting a resolution affirming the "territorial integrity of Ukraine within its internationally recognised borders." Russia will never let Crimea with the port of Sevastopol fall into the hands of Ukraine. This port on the Black Sea is a critical, strategic location for the Russian Navy.
Currently and realistically Russia is winning the military operation and will end up appointing someone to govern what remains of Ukraine afterwards. Russia won’t leave it into the hands of either the nationalists Armed Forces of Ukraine or the or the Tymoshenko/Oleg Lyashko bloc SBU of Ukraine, as either leadership would ultimately be the same as Zelensky aside from the name change. They are all supportive of NATO membership and the brutal Azov Battalion. Ukraine is too large and corrupt to remain as it is. Russia will want it broken into smaller parts. Therefore, it’s conceivable that Ukraine will be divided into distinct ethnically Ukrainian & Russian areas consisting of the Ukraine republic & the Russian republic.
The Russian republic will form Novorussya; an area extending from Kharkiv,Donbas/Lunesk, (Donetsk republic), Mariupol to Odessa and Crimea. The Ukraine republic will contain Kiev and central Ukraine to the Russian republic controlled areas. For manageability there’s a possibility of further divisions to include Lviv returning to Poland. Leaving the western Carpathian area either to Hungary or Romania.
These divisions would put Ukraine into a manageable size while maintaining the security of Russia 🇷🇺.
