Good historical perspective, but we should be cautious of relying on generalized labels. Current practice always modifies or ignores conventional assumptions. It's the civilian version of "fighting the last war." If your adversary uses innovative methods and you defend with tactics that worked in the previous wars, you'll probably lose. Socialism takes many faces, and it's important that we learn to recognize and counter the current manifestations. Probably the most insidious effort of modern socialism is the burgeoning welfare state, producing a dependent class who are trained to obey. Obedience is the core of socialism.
Disobedience is the best defense against encroaching socialism. Learn self reliance -- it's contagious, and produces the most powerful immunity against socialism. Socialism only works for the weak and stupid.
Back in 1620 a group of people hired a ship to sail across the Atlantic Ocean with the intent on establishing a colony in a new relatively unknown land, a place where they could primarily practice their religious beliefs in freedom from oppression. The cost for such a venture was high, very high. Besides risking their very health and lives, they had to secure loans to pay for their passage. They hoped with hard work they could create wealth by the harvest goods such as fish and timber which could be shipped back to England to pay off their loans. In order to achieve this goal they planned to work together as a community. The land, their shelters, everything they worked for and produced would be shared, owned by the community. In essence nobody would anything and they would be happy as they lived and worked together in concert to achieve the goal of paying off their debt. After two long years (it may have been a bit longer) the leaders there realized they were failing. Wealth was not being created in the abundance needed to sustain even their own needs. People were starving. Something needed to change if they hoped to ever achieve their goals of paying off their debt. They decided to divide up the land, give each family unit ownership of their own plot along with all the food and wealth produced from it. In a span of a few years the results were dramatic. People now had sufficient food and were creating the wealth they needed to eventually pay off their debt. Other people hearing of the news took the risks to colonize this “new” land. The Catholic Church and the elites of the WEF need to study history. Socialism, communism stagnates human incentive to be fruitful. Eventually ALL suffer.
