The way I understand it, Dr. Buckhaults only became involved after Kevin McKenn published his discovery of the plasmid DNA contamination. And get this, Dr. Buckhaults ran his experiments hoping to disprove McKernan's findings. He sort of had to announce it that way, that in his effort to debunk McKernan, he actually validated the findings. Since then he has done the honorable thing and dug in to investigate the implications of the contamination.
