I can relate. I almost lost my home in 1998, to an adjacent stable fire. Only two miracles that occured saved my home, while the stable burned to the ground. Being in a fire is extremely traumatic.

Embers can travel for kilometers on forward winds and ignite spot fires. Also the boats may have caught alight closer to shore and drifted further out - either unintentionally or by arsonists.

This can be easily seen in footage of the aftermath of the Tsunami we surrendered a few years back here in Japan.
There are enough questions about how it began and the response of the local authorities. Please do not discredit these by stating that what is common in wind blown fires is something other.
