Israeli Ground Troops Rescue Hostage, After Mossad Chief's Secretive Trip To Qatar

Update(1730ET): Amid the expanding ground operation which has seen Israeli tanks positioned outside of Gaza City and heavy firefights with Hamas militants erupt, Axios has revealed that the head of Mossad, David Barnea, made a secretive weekend trip to Qatar where he met with senior Qatari officials as part of mediation efforts to secure the release of Israeli and foreign hostages. 

According to the latest update, over 235 are in Hamas and Palestinian Islamic Jihad (PIJ) captivity, and Qatar remains the chief third party communicating with both Tel Aviv and Hamas. But Israeli officials have described that the ground offensive was launched after it became clear that the talks had born no fruit.

The young German-Israeli tattoo artist who was paraded through the streets of Gaza after being kidnapped by Hamas has been found dead after “sadistic” terrorists “chopped off her head,” Israel’s president revealed Monday. “I am truly sorry to report that we have now received news that Shani Nicole Louk has been confirmed murdered and dead,” President Isaac Herzog told the German newspaper Bild. “Her skull was found,” he said, with the 23-year-old victim’s family also confirming that the death was confirmed by DNA on parts of her skull.

The Israeli Shin Bet security service and the Police jointly interrogated six detainees from Gaza implicated in the mass violence that occurred on October 7, 2023. On Monday, selected excerpts from these interrogations were made public. According to The Jerusalem Post, each detainee had a somewhat unique experience, but Israeli intelligence agencies identified common elements among them. All individuals affiliated with Hamas received explicit orders to target and harm civilians, including the elderly, women, and children. Their superiors remained in Gaza while they carried out these acts. One of the terrorists disclosed that those who brought hostages back to Gaza were promised $10,000 and an apartment.

The Times report says that “satellite imagery taken Monday morning shows the substantial scale of one of Israel’s main advances into northern Gaza."

Satellite photos published by the New York Times on Tuesday show Israeli tanks have reached Al-Bahr Boulevard in Gaza, a large street that runs across Gaza from the beach toward Jabalia.

The important junction of Bahr and Rashid streets is not overlooked by the IDF, according to the photos. Rashid is a major street that runs north-south. Rashid begins around one kilometer south of the border and runs all the way south, passing Shati camp and the Gaza port before heading to the southern area of the Gaza Strip.

'Destabilisation of Hamas is beginning', says IDF spokesperson

IDF spokesperson Major Doron Spielman says the “destabilisation of Hamas is beginning.” Israel tanks are reported to have entered Gaza city, leading to the Israeli army finding and rescuing one hostage, a female soldier, Ori Megidish. Major Spielman told Sky News Australia host Andrew Bolt that Hamas is “fighting back” but that Israel has “very carefully prepared” for their retaliation. “They are fighting, then they retreat into their tunnels, come back out, launch a massive attack, they’ve been waiting and they are hungry to kill our soldiers, but we have very carefully prepared for this, we’ve had the time to do it,” he said. “We are having excellent success in terms of hitting their terror targets. We have eliminated a number of their top commanders over the past 48 hours. We are destabilising them, the destabilisation of Hamas is beginning.”

Alexander Ben Zvi made the remarks after an angry mob forced its way onto an airport runway in Dagestan in search of “Israeli refugees” on Sunday.

In an interview with Russian-language international media outlet RTVI on Monday, Ben Zvi said that “apparently, there will be recommendations for Israeli nationals to refrain from visits to Russia’s Muslim republics.”
