Pentagon using ‘banned’ Russian oil – WaPo
Forbidden petroleum products have continued to flow to the US military through a Greek refinery, the outlet says
The Pentagon is bypassing Washington’s own sanctions against Russia as it continues to buy petroleum products made from its oil, which takes a circuitous route to a US military supplier despite an ongoing embargo, a Washington Post investigation revealed on Tuesday.
Petroleum products made from Russian oil have continued to flow via a key Pentagon fuel supplier, the Motor Oil Hellas refinery on the Aegean Sea in Greece. The vital fuel is sent from Russian Black Sea ports through an oil storage facility in Türkiye, the outlet said, citing ship-tracking data.

The stopgap funding to avoid a government shutdown was approved by the House in a bipartisan vote
The US House of Representatives approved a bill on Tuesday which Speaker Mike Johnson proposed last week to avoid a government shutdown. The Republican caucus was split over the vote, while all but two Democrats supported it.
The Democrat-controlled Senate is expected to approve the bill within days, with President Joe Biden’s signature also awaited, according to US media. The so-called 'stopgap' legislation included no money for Ukraine aid.
Ukraine's Fate Will Be Decided In Coming Year, Top Zelensky Aide Admits
In surprisingly blunt words, a top aide to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has warned that the coming year will essentially decide the fate of Ukraine and its war with Russia.
"A turning point in the war is approaching," Andrii Yermak, who serves as chief of staff for the Office of the President of Ukraine, said Monday. "The next year will be decisive in this regard." He issued the words while appealing for more urgent aid from Washington in an address to the hawkish DC-based Hudson Institute think tank.

US court clears Trump for White House run
A Michigan judge has ruled the ex-president can contest the Republican nomination, rejecting an “insurrection” lawsuit by activists
Former US President Donald Trump is eligible to remain on Michigan’s 2024 presidential primary ballot for the Republican Party, a state court has ruled. A local activist group had sought to bar Trump from running for office by filing an “insurrection” lawsuit against him.
Michigan Court of Claims judge James Redford delivered the ruling on Tuesday. The decision followed a legal bid by liberal activist group Free Speech for People, which had claimed that Trump’s alleged role in the January 6, 2021, Capitol riot should disqualify him from campaigning for elected office.
A Trump-Tucker Ticket?
A Trump Tucker (T2) presidential ticket is beginning to look like a real possibility. A T2 ticket would be putting the Make America Great Again movement and the America First alliance on steroids.
As opposed to being a "balanced ticket," it would be a "double down" on an American exceptionalism ticket. A Trump-Tucker ticket would certainly electrify and energize a base already loaded for bear.

Europe Is Burning
Ever since the earliest days of the Republic, American intellectuals, artists, and statesmen looked to Europe for models. Conservatives felt attracted to the continent’s sense of continuity and tradition, and as the base for Christianity. More recently, progressives saw in European social democracy and globalist pacifism a role model to be embraced.
Yet today Europe seems not much of a model for much of anything outside of museums, charming cathedral towns, and terrific food. The notion that Europe represents the future, nurtured by the likes of Mitterrand advisor Jacques Attali, Jeremy Rifkind’s utopian European Dream, and the American journalist T.R. Reid’s 2005 The United States of Europe: The New Superpower and the End of American Supremacy, seem utterly delusional.
Doug Casey on the Collapse of Trust in American Institutions
International Man: According to a recent Gallup poll, the American people’s confidence in their leaders and most important institutions has collapsed to the lowest figure ever recorded.
Americans have never been more distrustful of the federal government, big business, the media, the education system, science institutions, the medical establishment, big tech companies, and law enforcement.
A $250 Million War Game and Its Shocking Outcome
At a cost of $250 million, Millennium Challenge 2002 was the largest and most expensive war game in Pentagon history.
With over 13,500 participants, the US government took over two years to design it.
The exercise pitted Iran against the US military. Washington intended to show how the US military could defeat Iran with ease.

Can You Tell The Difference? AI-generated Faces More Realistic than Human Ones
In what sounds like a science-fiction thriller, Australian scientists found that White faces produced by artificial intelligence have the perception of being more realistic than those of actual humans. This startling discovery is raising concerns about the potential reinforcement of racial biases online, as AI-generated faces of people of color did not receive the same level of recognition.
“If White AI faces are consistently perceived as more realistic, this technology could have serious implications for people of color by ultimately reinforcing racial biases online,” says study senior author Dr. Amy Dawel, of the Australian National University (ANU), in a media release.
We the Exploited: The U.S. Government Buys and Sells Its Citizens for Profit and Power
Americans have become easy prey for hackers, scammers, snitches, spies, and con artists.
But don’t be fooled into thinking the government is protecting you. To the contrary, the U.S. government is selling us (or rather, our data) to the highest bidders.
By the way, those highest bidders also include America’s political class and the politicians aspiring to get elected or re-elected. As the Los Angeles Times reports, “If you have been to a political rally, a town hall, or just fit a demographic a campaign is after, chances are good your movements are being tracked with unnerving accuracy by data vendors on the payroll of campaigns.”
UPDATE: Giant crack tears through town, thousands evacuated and ‘terrifying sounds’ coming up from the earth as Iceland volcano set to erupt
The whole of Iceland ‘is on edge’ as experts say earthquakes which have been rumbling beneath the surface for days and have torn through a town are a precursor to a volcanic eruption.
More than 700 quakes have been recorded in the southwestern Reykjanes Peninsula since yesterday, and despite them being slightly weaker than in previous days the Fagradalsfjall volcano is still expected to erupt.
BIRTH PANGS: Nineteen volcanoes have erupted at the same time
More than a dozen volcanos are erupting at the same time worldwide, and three new eruptions joined the list this week. The Smithsonian Institute’s Global Volcanism Program tracks new eruptions and updates its list of currently erupting volcanos on Wednesdays. The most recent update shows three new eruptions, bringing the list’s total to 19 eruptions at once. The list doesn’t include all erupting volcanos.
The new volcanic eruptions have some people voicing their concerns on social media. “Volcanoes erupt simultaneously in Italy, Iceland, Japan, Mexico, Russia, Philippines, etc. Below is a volcanic activity map of 2013 vs 2023.
King David-Era Outpost Discovered in Southern Israel
The Bible states that soon after King David conquered the kingdom of Edom, he established a series of garrisons in the region. But is it true? Have such Davidic-era fortresses been discovered in the territory belonging to biblical Edom? For today’s program, Let the Stones Speak host Brent Nagtegaal traveled to Ein Hatzeva, located in southern Israel, to interview Israel Antiquities Authority archaeologist Dr. Tali Erickson-Gini at what she believes is one of the many military outposts dating to King David’s time.
