Putin unleashes 'Dagger' hypersonic missiles on Kyiv injuring 17 just hours before arrival of NATO chiefs - as Zelensky pleads for more weapons from the West

Russian President Vladimir Putin has unleased 'dagger' hypersonic missiles on Kyiv, injuring more than a dozen people just hours before NATO chiefs arrived in the region.

Russia carried out its largest attack on the Ukrainian capital in weeks, firing more than 30 missiles at Kyiv early Thursday, after Putin vowed retribution for escalating strikes on Russia's border regions. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky called on the West to deliver air defense systems after the attacks, which wounded 17 in Kyiv and the surrounding region. Ukraine's air force said it shot down 31 Russian missiles fired towards Kyiv. 

Russian missile strikes damage power supply in Ukraine's Kharkiv

About 15 blasts were heard in Ukraine's Kharkiv on Friday morning, mayor Ihor Terekhov said, and Russian missile strikes appeared to be targeting the city's power supply, causing partial blackouts.

Terekhov did not report any casualties. In central Ukraine, Kryvyi Rih mayor Oleksandr Vilkul said blasts were heard in the city, but provided no details. The administration of the southern Ukrainian city of Zaporizhzhia also reported eight missile strikes. According to Ukrainian officials, several Russian missiles were still moving towards targets in Ukraine.

Russia and Ukraine believe that their crisis will be solved through peace talks, even as both are adamant on their positions and have huge differences when it comes to peace talks, China's special envoy for Eurasian affairs said on Friday.

The special envoy Li Hui said Russia appreciates Chinese efforts in its latest round of shuttle diplomacy to Europe, while Ukraine viewed his recent visit as important. China wishes to see an international peace conference recognized by both Russia and Ukraine, with both participating equally, its special envoy for Eurasian affairs added. He also said China put forward suggestions with the sole intention of ensuring the peace conference that Switzerland agreed to host this year is successful.

Ukraine Talks Haven't Started Because of US Threats to Zelensky, Seymour Hersh Says

Negotiations on resolving the conflict in Ukraine could have started months ago, but US authorities threatened Vladimir Zelensky with withdrawal of non-military funding, US journalist and Pulitzer Prize winner Seymour Hersh said in an article on Substack.

"We were on the verge of a reasonable negotiation several months ago before Putin's re-election and Zelensky's military degradation. The US leaders got wind of the possibility and gave Zelensky the ultimatum-'No negotiations or settlement or we won't support your government with the $45 billion in non-military funds [that Ukraine is now receiving annually],'" the source told the journalist. According to Hersh's information, US intelligence community recognises that "Ukraine has little chance of winning..."

On Wednesday, US National Security Adviser Jake Sullivan visited Ukraine, saying that he is confident that the US will pass the roughly $61 billion in aid for Ukraine that has languished in Congress since October. Sullivan did not provide a timeline on when he expects the bill to pass, but stressed there was no need to “speak today about plan B.”

However, the EU has already started contingency plans. On Tuesday, EU foreign policy chief Josep Borrell proposed a plan to send the interest accrued on frozen Russian assets to Ukraine, estimating that it could provide the Kiev regime around €3 billion a year, a far cry from the roughly $113 billion the US has provided since the special operation began.

32 Chinese warplanes buzz around Taiwan in just 24 hours - the second-highest number this year after the island nation admitted stationing US troops

Thirty-two Chinese warplanes were detected over Taiwan in just 24 hours, the country's defense ministry said. 

In the 24 hours between Wednesday 6am and Thursday 6am local time, the second highest number of Chinese planes this year buzzed over the island nation accompanied by five naval vessels around Taiwan. Twenty of the aircraft 'crossed the median line of the Taiwan Strait', the Ministry of National Defense said in a statement on Thursday. The aircraft were detected after nightfall and included fighter jets, unmanned drones and medium-range transport aircraft, according to the ministry. 

US Commander claims that China is on track to be prepared to Invade Taiwan by 2027

The top U.S. military commander in the Indo-Pacific has said that Beijing is maintaining its goal of being able to invade Taiwan by 2027, testimony that came as China sent the second-largest contingent of warplanes around the democratic island in a single day this year.

China is working to build up its People’s Liberation Army (PLA) “on a scale not seen” since World War II, even as the country focuses on reinvigorating a slowing economy, Indo-Pacific Command chief Adm. John Aquilino told the U.S. House Armed Services Committee in prepared testimony Wednesday. “All indications point to the PLA meeting President Xi Jinping’s directive to be ready to invade Taiwan by 2027,” Aquilino said. “The PLA’s actions indicate their ability to meet Xi’s preferred timeline to unify Taiwan with mainland China by force if directed.”

Secretary of State Antony Blinken will arrive in Israel later today to press for a temporary truce in Gaza, ahead of a key UN Security Council vote on a US draft resolution calling for an “immediate” ceasefire.

Washington said it would submit for a vote on Friday a draft to the Security Council on the need for an “immediate ceasefire as part of a hostage deal.”After talks in Saudi Arabia and Egypt, Blinken will arrive to Israel later, his sixth trip to the region since the war began with Hamas’s shock attack on Israel on October 7.

Blinken told Qatar to threaten Hamas with expulsion as hostage talks faltered — report

US Secretary of State Antony Blinken delivered a message to Qatar earlier this month that it must pressure Hamas to accept a temporary ceasefire and hostage release deal or risk being asked to leave by its Doha hosts, CNN reports.

The Times of Israel reported last week that Qatar’s Emir Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani proposed expelling Hamas’s leaders from Doha during a meeting with Blinken days after the terror group’s October 7 onslaught. Blinken at the time signaled that it would be better for Qatar to use its contacts with Hamas — through the office it allowed the terror group to establish in Doha in 2012 at Washington’s behest — to mediate for a hostage deal.

The US resolution, which will be put to vote on Friday, “will unequivocally support ongoing diplomatic efforts aimed at securing an immediate ceasefire in Gaza as part of a hostage deal,” Nate Evans, spokesman for US Ambassador Linda Thomas-Greenfield, said in a statement.

Gideon Sa'ar wrote on X, "The time has come when Israel should present the idea of surrender and exile (of the remainder of Hamas' military wing) as an orderly idea to end the war in Gaza.” 

Gideon Sa’ar, Minister-without-portfolio and chairman of the newly founded New Hope - The United Right party, unveiled on Thursday his plan for an end to the Israel-Hamas war. In a post shared on X, he wrote, “This should have happened a long time ago. But at this moment when the whole world stands against Israel's action in Rafah– the time has come when Israel should present the idea of surrender and exile (of the remainder of Hamas' military wing) as an orderly plan to end the war in Gaza.”

A member of the Lebanese terrorist group Hezbollah was caught entering the country illegally at the Texas border, where he told agents he was plotting to make a bomb once settled in the country, according to a March 19 federal court document. Basel Bassel Ebbadi, a Lebanese national, told a Texas border agent that he was “here to make a bomb” and that he spent several years training with the Hizballah terrorist group, an alternate name for Hezbollah, and he “was taught to kill people who were not Muslim.”

Pfizer Leases Space at San Diego Campus for Cancer-Drug Push

(Bloomberg) -- Pfizer Inc.’s oncology division is taking space at a newly built life-sciences complex in San Diego, as the pharma giant redefines itself as a cancer-drug powerhouse.

The company agreed to a 15-year lease for 230,000 square feet (21,400 square meters) at the property, called Torrey View, according to a statement Friday by developer Breakthrough Properties. Pfizer will occupy two research and development buildings at the 10-acre (4-hectare) campus, which is nearing completion. The statement didn’t disclose financial terms of the lease. Based on data from CBRE Group Inc. on average asking rents in the area, the total for the 15-year deal would be about $290 million.

There was an elevated risk of nonhemorrhagic stroke or transient ischemic attack in people 85 or older following Pfizer vaccination and people aged 65 to 74 following Moderna vaccination, the researchers found.

FAA warns of air travel disruptions in path of April 8 eclipse

The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) warned of disruptions in air travel before, during and after the total solar eclipse April 8.

The unique total solar eclipse will bring a path of totality across 13 U.S. states when the moon “totally” blocks the sun, leaving the sun’s outermost layer — the corona — visible to the naked eye. The eclipse will cross North America in its path, going over Mexico, the United States and Canada. It is expected to impact the U.S. from about 2:30 p.m. EDT to 3:40 p.m. EDT, the FAA said in a statement.
