US Deploys "Project Maven" In Middle East As AI Warfare Underway

Remember in 2018 when thousands of Google employees protested its Pentagon contract called "Project Maven" that used article intelligence technology to analyze drone surveillance footage?

Well, six years after Google did not renew its Pentagon contract for AI work to head off an internal rebellion, that very same technology was used by the US military to identify targets across the Middle East in bombing raids by fighter jets earlier this month, according to Schuyler Moore, chief technology officer for US Central Command, which runs US military operations in the Middle East, who spoke with Bloomberg.

And that's when offered Monday as the day the warring sides will reach a ceasefire. "My national security adviser tells me that we’re close. We’re close. We’re not done yet. My hope is, by next Monday, we’ll have a ceasefire."

Riyad Mansour, the Palestinian UN ambassador, tells reporters after an emergency closed council meeting on the deaths, that 14 of the 15 council members supported the statement put forward by Algeria, the Arab representative on the body.

Washington has "no expectation" that a parliamentary election in Iran on Friday will be free and fair, State Department spokesperson Matthew Miller told reporters on Thursday.

"I suspect that a great number of Iranians have no expectation that those elections will be free and fair," Miller said. "As you probably already know, thousands of candidates were already disqualified in an opaque process and the world has long known that Iran's political system features undemocratic and non-transparent administrative, judicial, and electoral systems.”

Three Chinese nationals were arrested crossing the northern border near Fort Fairfield, Maine, and a fourth was arrested on suspicion of assisting them.

Border agents in Maine arrested three Chinese nationals while they were illegally crossing the northern border of the US into Maine near Fort Fairfield early on Wednesday morning.  According to reporting from local outlet Maine Wire, the three unidentified Chinese nationals were crossing the border and got intercepted by authorities with US Customs and Border Protect (CBP).

Federal Judge Blocks New Texas Law To Arrest Illegal Immigrants

A federal judge on Thursday temporarily blocked a Texas law that grants state police the capacity to arrest people who are suspected of illegally crossing the U.S.–Mexico border.

The measure, called Senate Bill 4 and signed by Gov. Greg Abbott in December, was slated to go into effect on March 5, but U.S. District Judge David Ezra ruled that it violated the U.S. Constitution’s Supremacy clause that grants the federal government sole authority over immigration matters. The judge also rejected Texas’s arguments that it was being invaded under the Constitution’s Article IV.

In a letter to Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin dated Feb. 28, Mr. Cotton sought answers from the Department of Defense (DOD) over the incident. “You have made it a top priority to address ‘extremism’ amongst our total force, and this act of horrific violence—in support of a terrorist group—raises serious questions about how this individual was allowed to serve on active duty,” Mr. Cotton wrote.

Canada has the highest household debt to disposable income level of any G7 country, according to newly released Statistics Canada data.

Canadian households’ debt-to-income ratio has reached 185 percent—roughly 35 percent above the United Kingdom and nearly 85 percent higher than the United States, StatCan said in its Feb. 28 report. That means Canadians owe $1.85 for every dollar they make after taxes. That’s up 17 points from the 168 percent ratio in 2018 and is a 119-point leap from 1980’s rate of 66 percent.

Earlier this month, a young person in Cape Town became one of the first people in the country to receive a new HIV prevention injection outside of a clinical trial.

The injection contains a long-acting formulation of the antiretroviral drug cabotegravir (CAB-LA for short). It provides two months of protection against HIV infection per shot. "We were excited and nervous at the same time, because (we) didn't know how this person is going to react to an injection," said Pakama Mapukata, a nurse and study coordinator. She added that the first person who received the CAB-LA injection responded well and told her that it was less painful than a sexually transmitted infection injection they had to receive in the past.

UPDATE: More than 1 million acres have been scorched across Texas as wildfires continue to spread

As many as 23 separate wildfires covered more than a million acres across Texas early this morning, according to the Texas A&M Forest Service.

The state’s fire preparedness level was raised to a three, meaning outside help from other agencies, regions or states may be required to battle the blazes. Family members identified an 83-year-old grandmother from the town of Stinnett as the only person confirmed killed from the fires to date. Joyce Blankenship, a former substitute teacher, was found dead in her home, family members said.

The religious group, which does not actually believe in Satan, encourages “effective and artful protest”, according to its website. In the ten years since its conception, the group has advocated for First Amendment rights, as well as religious freedom , across the United States . The Satanic Temple also runs a series of after school groups, saying they are an alternative to offerings by other religions. Groups are only set up when other religious groups are present on campus.
