US National Security Adviser Refuses To Rule Out Attacks On Iran

US National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan has refused to rule out striking targets in Iran in the wake of repeated strikes on Iran-linked groups across the Middle East. Speaking to NBC, Sullivan was asked repeatedly if the US was considering attacks inside Iran.

"Well, sitting here today on a national news program, I'm not going to get into what we've ruled in and ruled out from the point of view of military action," he said. "What I will say is that the president is determined to respond forcefully to attacks on our people. The president also is not looking for a wider war in the Middle East."

Iran has told the United States through intermediaries that any strike on its own soil would cross a red line and provoke reprisals on American targets in the region, according to a report.

The grim warning came as the world holds its breath to see how Joe Biden will respond to the killing of three U.S. soldiers by Iranian-backed militias. Biden on Tuesday said he had already made his decision regarding reprisals for the deaths on Sunday - but did not disclose what it was.

Politico reported on Sunday that US President Joe Biden is deeply suspicious of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, and privately has called the prime minister a “bad f***ing guy,” people who have talked to the president said.

According to the report, Biden fears that Netanyahu is eager to drag the US into a wider war in the Middle East, a conflict that would ensure American weapons keep flowing to the region, troops soon follow and international pressure on him to agree to a Gaza ceasefire and his domestic political difficulties both dissipate.

Hamas signals 'positive direction' in hostage deal decision

Israel has previously stated it believes that Hamas's response to the deal has been delayed due to differences of opinion between Hamas leadership in Gaza and abroad.

Hamas leaders abroad and in Gaza are expected to go in a "positive direction" during hostage deal negotiations following a round of consultation, according to reports by the Lebanese Al-Akhbar newspaper on Monday.

The leadership of Hamas abroad has completed a first round of consultations that included the senior officials of the terrorist organization as well as the leadership of the Islamic Jihad and other Palestinian factions.

US Secretary of State Antony Blinken headed to the Middle East for another crisis tour on Monday in a bid to secure a new truce in the Israel-Hamas war, as southern Gaza saw no let-up in fighting.

On his fifth trip to the region since Hamas’s shock October 7 attack, which started the war, Blinken is expected to visit Saudi Arabia, Israel, Egypt and Qatar. He is expected to discuss a proposed truce thrashed out in a Paris meetingin January of top US, Israeli, Egyptian and Qatari officials.

According to the proposed two-stage deal, Israel will stop fighting for at least four months and release a large number of terrorists in return for the release of the remaining hostages and a normalization deal with Saudi Arabia.

The United States is pressuring Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to agree to a halt in the fighting in Gaza for at least four months as part of a two-stage deal, Channel 13 reported on Sunday. According to the report, in return for the long ceasefire, an agreement will be put into action to normalize relations between Israel and Saudi Arabia.

US Establishes New Stockpile In Australia To Prepare For War Over Taiwan

The US created a new stockpile of military equipment during drills in Australia last summer to prepare for a future war with China over Taiwan, Reuters reported on Wednesday.

The stockpile was left behind after the Talisman Sabre exercises, which ran from July 22 to August 4 and were billed as the largest-ever iteration of the drill, demonstrating US focus on preparing for a future conflict in the Asia Pacific. The Reuters report said the equipment left behind includes 330 vehicles and trailers and 130 containers in a warehouse in Bandiana, a suburb of Wodonga, a city in southeastern Australia.

Dead dolphins have been washing up on Texas beaches as the state’s stranding season peaks.

Around 18 dolphins have already been stranded along the Gulf Coast in January, and this number is only expected to increase, the nonprofit Texas Marine Mammal Stranding Network told Newsweek in an email. “It is dolphin stranding season for Texas and over the next few months we will likely continue to see an increase in stranded dolphins, both alive and dead, due to various causes,” Texas Marine Mammal Stranding Network said on a Facebook post.
