Iranian president arrives in Moscow

Ebrahim Raisi is set to meet with Russian President Vladimir Putin to discuss bilateral relations and other issues

Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi and his delegation have touched down in Moscow where they are set to hold talks with Russian President Vladimir Putin on Thursday to discuss a number of key issues.

Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov has announced that the negotiations between Putin and Raisi will first take place in а limited format, which will then be followed by Russian-Iranian negotiations at a working lunch. 

US Senate blocks Ukraine funding

President Biden had pleaded for Congress to pass the $111 billion proposal

A spending package proposed by the White House, that included over $60 billion in funding for Kiev, failed to pass in the Senate on Wednesday, falling short of the 60 votes necessary to proceed.

The final vote was 49 in favor and 51 against; the Republican opposition voted against the bill alongside Senator Bernie Sanders, a Vermont independent who normally votes with the Democrats. Majority Leader Chuck Schumer, a New York Democrat, also voted “no” so he could bring the bill up again at a later date, according to The Hill.

Russia could attack NATO – Biden

Moscow has slammed remarks as “provocative rhetoric… unacceptable for a responsible nuclear state,”

Russia could launch an attack on NATO that could trigger a global conflict involving American troops, US President Joe Biden said on Wednesday, while urging Congress to pass a $111 billion national security package.

The bill, which was backed by Democrats, included funding for Ukraine Israel and Taiwan. Biden also lashed out at Republicans – who have refused to support his bill due to disputes over security at the southern US border

The US will bear the blame should Ukraine be defeated on the battlefield if additional aid isn’t approved by Congress, Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen said on Tuesday. The American funds are “utterly essential” to Kiev, Yellen told the press while on a visit to Mexico City.  

US lawmakers have been debating a $111 billion supplemental spending package that would include $61 billion for Kiev, along with funding for Israel, Taiwan, and US border security.

Zelensky Will "Pay For His Mistakes" Says Kiev Mayor Vitali Klitschko

Volodymyr Zelensky failed to prepare Ukraine properly for the war with Russia and will “pay for his mistakes,” warned Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko.

The former heavyweight boxing champion made the comments to Swiss news outlet 20 Minuten.

Klitschko was asked if he was surprised to see Zelensky’s popularity declining across the country. “No. People see who is effective and who is not, and there were and are many expectations. Zelensky is paying for the mistakes he made,” he responded.

Russia and Saudi Arabia Agree to Boost Defense Cooperation

On Wednesday, Russian President Vladimir Putin paid a working visit to Saudi Arabia, where he met with Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman Al Saud and discussed bilateral, regional and international issues.

Russia and Saudi Arabia have agreed to strengthen defense cooperation so that it is aimed at supporting the common interests of the two countries, according to a joint statement published on the Kremlin's website.

IDF commandos raid Hamas’s Khan Yunis stronghold in south Gaza

The Israel Defense Forces’ 98th Division, which includes the Commando Brigade and other special forces, launched a raid of Khan Yunis, Hamas’s stronghold in southern Gaza, IDF Spokesperson Rear Adm. Daniel Hagari announced on Wednesday evening, adding that Hamas was surprised by the raid.

Netanyahu says IDF will demilitarize Gaza after war

23andMe admits hackers accessed 6.9 million users’ DNA Relatives data

23andMe confirmed that a recent breach leaked data belonging to 6.9 million users. In an emailed statement to The Verge, company spokesperson Andy Kill says the breach affected around 5.5 million users who had DNA Relatives enabled, a feature that matches users with similar genetic makeups, while an additional 1.4 million people had their family tree profiles accessed.

Google debuts powerful Gemini generative AI to compete with OpenAI, Microsoft

Google on Wednesday debuted its new Gemini generative AI model. The platform serves as Google’s answer to Microsoft-backed (MSFT) OpenAI’s GPT-4, and according to DeepMind CEO Demis Hassabis, it’s the company’s “most capable and general model” yet.

Gemini is what is referred to as a natively multimodal model, meaning it can analyze text, audio, video, images, and code. While other multimodal offerings exist, Google says Gemini stands apart because the model was designed to take all of those mediums into account from the beginning.
