France to send long-range missiles to Ukraine – Macron

The country’s president says the weapons are intended to help Kiev’s ongoing counteroffensive

France will supply long-range missiles to Ukraine to prop up its ongoing counteroffensive, President Emmanuel Macron has announced. In May, the UK became the first country to ship this type of weaponry to Kiev.

Speaking ahead of the NATO summit in Vilnius, Lithuania on Tuesday, Macron said he had “made the decision to increase weapons and equipment deliveries to Ukraine [to] allow them to strike deep [into enemy territory].” He added that Paris would continue to stick to its policy of assisting Ukraine in “defending its territory.”

According to expectations, top-tier politicians will discuss a wide range of topics, with an emphasis on military aid to the Kiev regime and Sweden's accession to the bloc. Ukrainian membership aspirations will also be discussed by political experts, yet no solid decisions are anticipated, because Western politicians are unlikely to give Kiev any guarantees until the end of the hostilities. Surprisingly, media reports indicate that the US is among the main opponents of Ukraine's quick accession.

Ukraine could skip step on path to NATO membership – Stoltenberg

The bloc’s secretary general says Kiev will not have to go through the Membership Action Plan, unlike other candidates

NATO leaders will “send a clear and positive signal” to Kiev regarding its desire to join the military alliance, Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg told journalists ahead of a two-day summit in Lithuania. Ukraine will be able to skip one of the normal steps for candidates, he suggested.

Stoltenberg has proposed that member states “remove the requirement for a Membership Action Plan (MAP)” for Kiev. This would change the accession path “from a two-step process to a one-step process,” he explained during a press conference on Tuesday.

In a statement on Monday, the agency quoted its director, Sergey Naryshkin, who insisted that “the US State Department … basically dictates to the American media what exactly they should write and say,” adding that it “has finally turned into the ‘Ministry of Truth’.”

US President Joe Biden will reportedly hold a one-on-one meeting with Ukrainian leader Vladimir Zelensky during this week’s NATO summit in Vilnius, Lithuania as a demonstration of unity amid disagreements over the Western military alliance’s proposed security commitments to Kiev.

The talks will be held on Wednesday on the sidelines of the NATO conference, multiple US media outlets reported on Monday, citing an unnamed White House official. “The meeting will mark a sign of unity, as Zelensky’s attendance at the summit had been in question,” CNN said.

The Turkish leader agreed to support Sweden’s application and forward the proposal to Ankara lawmakers for ratification, NATO Secretary-General Jens Stoltenberg said after hosting a meeting between Erdogan and Swedish Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson on Monday in Vilnius. “This is an historic step which makes all NATO allies stronger and safer,” he added.

Report: US Never Checked How $35 Billion in Europe Defense Aid Was Spent Since 2015

WASHINGTON (Sputnik) - The US has spent more than $35 billion in the past nine years to boost the military preparedness of its NATO European allies against alleged Russian aggression; however, to date, the Pentagon has failed to ever determine if the funds were spent properly, a new government report has determined.

The Government Accountability Office (GAO) said in a new report that event though the US spent tens of billions on NATO preparedness, the Defense Department has still not set out any performance goals or assessment programs to see if the money has been spent properly, or effectively at all.

i24 News – Ukraine has supported 90 percent of anti-Israeli decisions at the UN, Israeli Ambassador to Ukraine Michael Brodsky said in an interview with Ukrainian media ZN.UA. “This is strange considering that Kyiv often turns to the Israeli authorities for various requests,” he added.

“If Ukraine considers Israel a friendly nation and makes requests of it, then it should support us in areas that are important to us, just as Israel cooperates with Ukraine in areas that are important to it.”

Lebanese army enters Israel - and refuses to leave

Dozens of armed soldiers from the Lebanese army and Hezbollah operatives entered Israeli territory last week.

Galei Tzahal - Israel Army Radio reported this morning (Sunday) that an unusual incident happened last week in the Manara area on the Lebanese border when dozens of armed men, most of them soldiers from the Lebanese army, along with a number of Hezbollah terrorists crossed the border into Israeli territory.

According to the report, the incident happened last Wednesday, while the IDF was carrying out work in the Ramim Ridge area. The Lebanese soldiers who crossed the border were armed and in uniform.

How the Israeli Air Force Is Preparing for Multi-Arena War

The IDF’s strategic arm needs to be able to take on rocket and missile bases over the borders and nuclear sites in Iran, all at the same time.

In mid-June, the Israel Defense Forces completed a major two-week war exercise, dubbed “Firm Hand,” which simulated a multi-arena war starting with Hezbollah and Lebanon and spreading to other locations, including Iran.

Australia to send surveillance planes to Germany

Australia is set to deploy surveillance aircraft to Germany to guide and protect an external support hub for Ukraine. Canberra also agreed a deal to export Australian-made German combat vehicles back to Germany.

Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese on Monday said Royal Australian Air Force surveillance aircraft would be deployed to Germany to support Ukraine.

Albanese said the planes, which will not enter Ukrainian, Russian, or Belarusian airspace, should help ensure the flow of military and humanitarian assistance to the country.
