Russia warns of ‘huge’ risks of sliding into nuclear war
A conventional clash may very likely escalate into an outright atomic conflict, Sergey Lavrov has cautioned
Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov has warned that any conflict between nuclear states, even if it starts with conventional weapons, is likely to escalate into an all-out nuclear war, and thus should be avoided at all costs.
Speaking at a press conference on Thursday, the diplomat was asked about Moscow and Washington’s joint efforts to reduce their strategic capabilities. Lavrov responded by pointing out that in September 2021 the US essentially froze the bilateral talks on reaching an agreement on the limitation of strategic offensive arms, long before Russia launched its military operation in Ukraine.

The Russian military reported new advances in the north of the Donetsk People’s Republic (DPR) on Wednesday. Multiple locations have been liberated on the outskirts of the town of Bakhmut, a major stronghold held by Ukrainian forces, which has seen intense fighting in recent weeks.
"On the Donetsk axis, the settlements of Belogorovka and Pershe Travnya of the Donetsk People’s Republic were completely liberated during offensive actions [by] Russian troops," the Defense Ministry said in its daily briefing, adding that "up to 50 Ukrainian servicemen, four armored combat vehicles, three self-propelled artillery units and six soft vehicles were destroyed."

The United States government is mulling over whether to provide Patriot surface-to-air missiles to Ukraine’s armed forces, the Defense Department said, weeks after Kiev explicitly requested the pricey weapon system.
Speaking during a Tuesday press briefing, an unnamed senior Pentagon official was asked if Washington had plans to ship Patriots to Ukraine, but simply replied: “I'm just going to say that all capabilities are on the table.”

The Biden administration on Tuesday vowed to provide Ukraine with $53 million to help the war-torn nation acquire critical electric grid equipment amid repeated missile attacks from Russian forces.
Secretary of State Antony Blinken announced the funding during a meeting with NATO allies and Group of Seven members on Tuesday.
“This equipment will be rapidly delivered to Ukraine on an emergency basis to help Ukrainians persevere through the winter,” the State Department said. “This supply package will include distribution transformers, circuit breakers, surge arresters, disconnectors, vehicles, and other key equipment.”

EU Threatens Musk With Twitter Ban Over Content Moderation
The EU has threatened to ban Twitter in Europe unless new owner Elon Musk adheres to its strict rules on content moderation.

From my own personal dealings with HSBC, the head office staff were mostly incompetent idiots, but the branch staff were generally excellent.
If HSBC want to improve, they should shut their head office, and give more power to the branches. This latest decision, however, shows they are going in the opposite direction, and HSBC bank is being damaged even further.
