Trudeau holds random Russians hostage
“A charter aircraft that carried Russian foreign nationals has been held at the Yellowknife airport. We will continue to hold Russia accountable for its invasion of Ukraine,” Transport Minister Omar Alghabra wrote in a Tweet.
According to Transport Canada, no red flags were raised until the government learned those aboard the chartered flight were of Russian descent.
Earlier this week, Canada barred all aircraft owned by Russia, including those chartered by Russian companies, as well as Russian oil imports.
Many have taken to social media to condemn the actions of the Canadian government over their rash handling of two, presumably innocent, Russians with no apparent ties to the Russian government.
“Wait, are you holding them hostage just because they are Russian? You think all Russians are responsible for Putin’s invasion of Ukraine? That is insane, and it’s the same insanity that led to Japanese internment camps in WW2,” Christina Pushaw writes in a Tweet.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has informed the US and UK leaders of an incident at the country’s largest nuclear facility, accusing Russian forces of shelling, causing a fire and triggering fears of a meltdown.
The White House confirmedthat President Joe Biden had been in touch with his Ukrainian counterpart late on Thursday night, noting that he was updated on the situation at the Zaporozhskaya Nuclear Power Plant following the fire incident. It added that Biden was also in touch with the US National Nuclear Security Administration, an agency of the Energy Department.

The leader has also refuted claims circulated by some media outlets that the payouts amount only to 11,000 rubles ($100). Those who were wounded are eligible for a lump sum of three million rubles ($28,000), while servicemen with permanent disabilities will receive lifetime pensions from Russia, according to the president.

Biden and Zelensky 'urged Russia to cease its military activities in the area and allow firefighters and emergency responders to access the site,' according to a readout of their call.

Russia's State Space Corporation Roscosmos halted deliveries of rocket engines to the US following a series of devastating financial sanctions by the US, according to Russian state-owned news agency TASS.
