Zelensky walks back nuclear threat
BBC says Ukrainian President meant preemptive sanctions, not “preemptive strikes,” as he blames translationUkrainian President Vladimir Zelensky insisted that his remarks about preemptive NATO nuclear strikes on Russia had been mistranslated. He really meant “preventive kicks,” he told the BBC in an interview that aired on Friday, with the British state broadcaster interpreting this as referring to sanctions.
“I said you have to do preventive kicks, not attacks,” Zelensky told BBC’s John Simpson.

The bridge that connects the Crimean Peninsula with mainland Russia has been damaged by a truck bombing, the National Anti-Terrorism Committee said on Saturday.
Officials said that the blast, which occurred shortly after 6am local time, caused a partial collapse of the road on the vehicle section. It also triggered a blaze on a freight train on the parallel rail section, with seven fuel tanks catching fire.

Outages of the Starlink communications system have led to a “catastrophic” loss of communication between Ukrainian troops as they battled Russian forces, the Financial Times (FT) reported on Friday.
The news triggered concerns that Elon Musk may have done something to the service in response to Ukrainian denunciations of his peace plan, but the SpaceX magnate called the newspaper's article “bad reporting.”
CIA, US Special Forces Presence Now "Far More Extensive" In Ukraine: Report
US special operations forces are on the ground in Ukraine as part of a broad covert operation that includes CIA personnel, The Intercept reported on Wednesday, citing unnamed US intelligence and military officials.
The report said that the US withdrew its CIA and special operations assets from Ukraine shortly before Russia’s invasion, although one US official said the CIA "never completely left."
Japan responds to rising China-Taiwan tensions by militarizing its remote islands
Japan plans to beef up defenses on its remote islands in the East China Sea in preparation for a Taiwan Strait crisis, a move reflecting official strategic thinking but one likely to annoy China.
The Japanese defense ministry wants to expand fuel and ammunition storage facilities on the Nansei (Ryukyu) island chain, the westernmost tip of which lies just 110 kilometers (68 miles) from Taiwan, Defense Minister Yasukazu Hamada was quoted as saying by Nikkei Asia on Tuesday.
US Intelligence Warning: China Escalating Influence Operations
China is doubling down on its efforts to influence state and local government leaders in the United States by exploiting the existing web of regional and local US-China relations, the U.S. National Counterintelligence and Security Center (NCSC) warned in July.
"Some of the goals of PRC [People's Republic of China] influence operations in the United States are to expand support for PRC interests among state and local leaders and to use these relationships to pressure Washington for policies friendlier to Beijing.
EU urges Israel to preserve Temple Mount status quo, end settlement construction
Despite this pressure, in his speech, the Israeli prime minister praised Israel’s relations with the E.U.
At the first E.U.-Israel Association Council meeting in a decade, the European Union urged Israel to stop building “settlements” – towns where Jews have permission to live – in Judea and Samaria, and to “preserve the status quo on the Temple Mount” – which means preventing Jews from praying there.
The Council meeting, which took place in Brussels, was held to improve ties between Israel and the E.U and saw the participation of the E.U.’s High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Josep Borrell and the foreign ministers of several European countries.

My readers remember that on Wednesday, after the market tore ass higher on both Monday and Tuesday, I offered up a note reminding readers not to throw caution to the wind just yet. The piece, called “The Illusion Of Safety”, pointed out things I thought people should consider before diving back into the market just because there was some semblance of a rally.

The Impossible Burger is a plant-based burger, the key ingredient of which is a protein called soy leghemoglobin (SLH for short), derived from genetically modified (GM) yeast. It's already being sold in restaurants and supermarkets in the US. In 2019 the manufacturing company, Impossible Foods, applied for permission to market the burger in the EU and the UK.
However, the results of a rat feeding study commissioned by Impossible Foods and carried out with SLH suggest that the burger may not be safe to eat.

How long before narrative suggests we should have RFID (RADIO FREQUENCY IDENTIFICATION DOCUMENTS) in all children at birth?
I have seen NO long term studies on safety. Though have heard of them moving around the body of the animals. Interestingly, Defra does not require farm animals to be chipped. They have ear tags. Could it be because RFID’s aren’t so safe to be used in meat and dairy.
We used to freeze mark horses. Tattoo dog ears. Maybe we should simply start wearing our ID numbers with tags hanging from our ears.
