German FM issues warning to South Africa

Annalena Baerbock says she is “very concerned” with allegations that Pretoria delivered arms to Russia

Berlin takes Washington’s claims that Moscow received a weapons shipment from South Africa “very seriously,” German Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock said on Friday. Her statement came after Pretoria rejected the allegations and summoned the US ambassador for an explanation. 

“I am very concerned that there have been these reports,” Baerbock told journalists on the sidelines of the EU foreign ministers summit in Stockholm, Sweden. She added that she was treating the allegations “very seriously” and would consult with other countries on the matter. 

Russia warns Britain over cruise missiles

London’s decision to supply Kiev with long-range cruise missiles is another step towards a “serious escalation” of the conflict in Ukraine, the Russian Foreign Ministry said in a statement on Friday.

An unidentified helicopter has crashed in Bryansk Region, Russia near the Ukrainian border. No information is currently available regarding casualties, the local emergency services said on Saturday. According to a TASS source, preliminary data indicates that the aircraft went down after its engine caught fire.

Videos shared on social media show the helicopter exploding mid-air and going down in a fireball. Other footage shows what appears to be the scene of the crash in a rural area. The local authorities said the crash did not cause any destruction on the ground.

Reports on the incident came shortly after an unidentified helicopter went down in Bryansk Region

An Su-34 fighter jet crashed in Bryansk Region, Russia near the Ukrainian border, minutes after reports that an unidentified helicopter also went down in the area, TASS news agency reported on Saturday, citing sources.

The agency provided no details on casualties, saying the authorities are working to clarify the situation.  The Telegram channel Baza released a video of a purported crash site, showing what appears to be the aircraft’s tail and engine engulfed in flames.

Mash Telegram channel reported that the Su-34 went down near the village of Istrovka north of the Ukrainian border, claiming that its crew – a pilot and navigator – were killed.
