The Wagner private military company led by Evgeny Prigozhin launched an insurrection in Russia that began on Friday evening and lasted through Saturday.

The armed contractors managed to seize an army headquarters in the southern part of the country.

However, they failed to rally other units and eventually aborted their advance towards Moscow after a deal was reached with the authorities. The agreement, which includes an amnesty for Prigozhin, was brokered by Belarusian leader, Aleksandr Lukashenko.

NEW YORK, June 25. /TASS/. The US intelligence agencies did not declassify the information they received about the plans of Yevgeny Prigozhin, the founder of the Wagner PMC, for fear of being accused by the Russian authorities of organizing a coup, the New York Times reported.

The entire world has been stunned by the events of the past 48 hours.  The leader of the Wagner Group, Yevgeny Prigozhin, was leading a convoy of heavily-armed troops to Moscow, and the mainstream media in the western world was salivating over the prospect of a Russian civil war.  The “regime change” in Russia that western leaders have desperately been hoping for seemed like a realistic possibility, and that sparked a frenzy of speculation on social media.  But just like that, it was over.  All of a sudden Prigozhin was heading into exile in Belarus, and we were told that his troops would be heading back to the front lines in Ukraine.

“It was a direct challenge to Putin’s authority, so this raises profound questions,” Blinken said on Sunday in a CBS News interview. “It shows real cracks. We can’t speculate or know exactly where that’s gonna go. We do know that Putin has a lot more to answer for in the weeks and months ahead.” 

Russian Lawmakers Working Out Bill to Regulate Private Military Companies' Activity

On Saturday, PMC Wagner chief Evgeny Prigozhin confirmed that his forces had halted their attempt to reach Moscow in order to "sort out" the Russian Defense Ministry’s top brass over an alleged missile attack on Wagner positions.

State Duma (Russia’s Lower House) Defense Committee head Andrey Kartapolov has told Russian media that his panel is working out a bill on regulating activities by private military companies (PMCs).

When asked if the document could be prepared and passed in the near future, the lawmaker said that he and his colleagues “are working on it."

Peace negotiations on the Ukraine conflict could begin as early as next month, German TV channel ARD has claimed. According to the public broadcaster, senior officials from a number of global powers held a meeting last week in the Danish capital Copenhagen to discuss the issue.

ARD reported on Sunday that US National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan was among the dignitaries present at the event. According to the broadcaster, the main objective of the gathering was to secure the support of ‘neutral’ countries such as China, India, Brazil and South Africa.

Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky has asked for more pressure on Moscow following his phone call with US President Joe Biden. According to the Ukrainian leader, they spoke about additional deliveries of heavy weapons. 

“We discussed the course of hostilities and the processes taking place in Russia,” Zelensky said on Sunday evening. “The world must put pressure on Russia until international order is restored.”

Threat of Nuclear War on Korean Peninsula Increasing, Pyongyang Warns

TOKYO (Sputnik) - South Korea and the United States are pushing the Korean peninsula to "the brink of a nuclear war," the North Korean foreign ministry’s Institute for American Studies warned in a report on Monday.

The report says that the United States is encroaching upon the sovereignty and security of North Korea more persistently this year, something that Pyongyang can no longer tolerate.

"...bellicose moves of the U.S. have pushed the military tensions on the Korean peninsula and in Northeast Asia already plunged into an extremely unstable situation closer to the brink of a nuclear war," the report, released by the official Korean Central News Agency (KCNA), says, as quoted by the South Korean Yonhap news agency.

Israeli police arrest three UN officials for smuggling liquid cocaine

Israeli authorities seized liquid cocaine at the Jordan River Border, implicating UN employees in a high-stakes operation.

An attempt to smuggle liquid cocaine disguised as perfume kits was halted on Sunday by Israel Police and Tax Authority inspectors from the Jordan River Customs House and Jordan River Border Crossing. 

Three UN employees serving on the Syrian border were apprehended by the Northern District Police's Yagal Unit on suspicion of involvement in the smuggling operation.

Train Carrying Hazardous Materials Derails into Montana’s Yellowstone River 

A freight train carrying hazardous material derailed into Yellowstone River after a bridge collapsed in Montana early on Saturday morning.

According to officials, the incident occurred around 6:45 a.m. while the train was traveling westbound near Reed Point, Montana.

Four of the derailed railcars were carrying molten sulfur, and three were carryinh hot asphalt, the Emergency Management for Yellowstone County director K.C. Williams told ABC News.
