The last remnants of Ukrainian forces have been driven out of the Lugansk People’s Republic (LPR), Russian Defense Minister Sergey Shoigu announced on Sunday. He reported the news to President Vladimir Putin, the Defense Ministry said in a statement.
Shoigu said Russian troops and Donbass forces had completely seized Lisichansk, the last major city which had remained under Ukrainian control since 2014, when the LPR declared its independence shortly after a coup in Kiev.
Escalation: Pentagon Provides Kiev with Surface-to-Air Missile Systems
The US Department of Defense is providing an additional $820 million package of military aid for Ukraine, including two surface-to-air missile defense systems, Pentagon spokesman Todd Breasseale announced on Friday.
This brings total US security assistance provided to Ukraine to approximately $6.9 billion since the start of Russia’s offensive in late February.

Russian energy major Rosneft has announced the discovery of a huge oil deposit in the Pechora Sea containing an estimated 82 million tons of oil.
The field was discovered thanks to a drilling campaign in the Medynsko-Varandeysky area. “During the tests, a free flow of oil was obtained with a maximum flow rate of 220 cubic meters a day,” the company’s statement read on Wednesday, noting that the “oil is light, low-sulfur, low viscosity.”

A curfew has been imposed in a region of Uzbekistan as the country’s President Shavkat Mirziyoyev responded to unrest, acknowledging that people have been killed in clashes with police this week.
“Government buildings were attacked. Unfortunately, there were casualties among civilians and law enforcement officials,” Mirziyoyev told local MPs in the city of Nukus on Sunday, the site of Friday’s riots.

Top American multinational bank JPMorgan & Chase has warned that oil prices are predicted triple and devastate the U.S. economy.
The price of a barrel of oil now hovers around $111 after already soaring.
However, the price could more than triple to a staggering $380 if Russia decides to cut its output, analysts at JP Morgan Chase are warning.
With the price of a gallon of gas in America now topping $5 in many areas, such a dramatic increase in oil costs would be catastrophic to the economy.
Chicago Violence: 7 Killed, 29 Others Shot Over Fourth of July Weekend
At least seven people were killed and 29 more were injured in shootings across Chicago over the Fourth of July weekend, officials said on Sunday morning.
Authorities said that a male and another male were shooting at each other at the 2200 block of South Wentworth Avenue at around 10:50 p.m. A 24-year-old unidentified woman was shot in the torso and was later pronounced dead at Stroger Hospital, officials told the Chicago Sun-Times and ABC7.
China Tightens Rules For Online Platforms, Requiring Companies To Authenticate Users' Identities
The Cyberspace Administration of China issued new regulations on June 27 requiring all online platform operators to authenticate users’ identities and verify the account information submitted by users during registration.
The new regulations require the network information service provider to display user IP addresses on their page of account information, which would facilitate Beijing’s monitoring of user locations.
The new rules will take effect on Aug. 1, when companies will need to validate every user’s online identity.

This blogger has shared at least twice now that he did not learn how to swim until after age 30. It was a military-style, four-day immersion class that essentially taught muscle memory to establish buoyancy, confidence and the ability to move from one place to the next in water.
Today swimming still is not a frequent habit. A few laps in pools happen on occasion just because it’s cool to have that ability after years of not. Adults who voluntary get into deep bodies of water know how to swim, or have death wishes, or are drunk. But everything is different in this world since 2020 and more so since 2021.

Mysterious creature with two sets of jaws and no eyes washes ashore a beach in Egypt
A mysterious creature described as looking like “an orc from Lord of the Rings” was discovered washed up on a beach in Egypt recently. Andrea Jud, 39, told News.com.au that she was exploring a beach at Gabr el-Bint on the Sinai Peninsula when she stumbled upon the unidentified creature, which she said had two sets of jaws and no eyes.
“I didn’t touch it. Just looking at it made me feel uneasy,” Jud said. “It freaked me out. It looked like a Lord of the Rings orc.” Additionally, Jud said she estimates the creature was about 12 meters (13 yards) inland, which would’ve been beyond the reach of waves.“I was camping with a bunch of friends, we had hiked to the location along the coast from Dahab,” Jud added. “I saw it early in the morning when I was walking back from the shore.

Seattle police arrested a street preacher on charges of being a risk to public safety for reading his Bible aloud at a public park near an LGBT pride event.
Matthew Meinecke, who identifies himself as The Seattle Preacher on Twitter, was surrounded by Seattle police officers as he was reading his Bible and was subsequently arrested and fingerprinted at a police station before being released.
