as a former bicyclist I would have appreciated having bike lanes on roads; but i can see your point, & would like to suggest a compromise: 1 meter passing space for every 20 km/hour speed over 20 kpm. (numbers adjustable) That way cars can still pass, but bicyclists won't get blown over by the breeze from cars passing at 80 kph.
