If family don’t care, it is more likely that healthcare workers(and the healthcare ‘system’) won’t care either. Nursing homes got the moniker “Junk yard for old people” from the outside in. In other words, nursing home staff know very quickly if there is a caring family member, or members, attached to a new inpatient. Often, sadly, there is not. The nursing home knows exactly what “dropped off to die” looks like. If, on the other hand, there is an active and present family member(or even a friend) then the nursing home has a higher calling to perform, knowing they will be held accountable if they fail in their basic duties. The same can be said of hospitals(although during Covid we had the horrific practice of family members being kicked out of hospitals so that their loved ones could be murdered without eye witness).
My real point here is that civilizational breakdown starts with families. From there it extends to institutions.

How many parents have been 'divorced' by their children, how many kids don't even want to bother staying in touch with their parents ? I hear so many complaints from ppl my age that their children never call or visit, ignore them unless there are carrot$ at the end of the stick, how often have I been told that I'm lucky not to have kids.... which is best ?!? My friend's grandson was ok visiting his grandma because she always gave him some money, but when she passed he wouldn't go to the funeral, no £, $, € in it.
