Not again! In this rare case the medical establishment was, sort of, correct. Doctors had been prescribing tobacco smoking as a cure for lung ailments, almost as long as tobacco has been around in the UK. Back then, doctors had few patients who could afford them, and would certainly have noticed if this new habit started harming them. Btw. smokers were seriously underrepresented in 'covid' hospitalisations (I've little doubt this would translate to other respiratory infections).
Back to smoking, the only reason it is so deadly is that they grow it in fertiliser rich in ionising radiation. Yes, the massively high uranium content in phosphate fertilisers turns a healthy product into a deadly one; it's been estimated that the average smoker gets the equivalent of around 300 chest x rays/year.
