I've wondered that. I'll just take a stab at it and say that it isn't so much colluding an inevitable result of putting self first, vainly seeking accolades from the world, being too busy to entertain any theological or philosophical notion, and being trained by others to follow this formula from daycare to college and beyond. Why do we have abortion? Euthanasia? Selfies? Sending nudes? Giving and getting poison darts to keep our incomes? Self, self, self. Or, to get more real and also more controversial, it basically boils down to sin. And how difficult it is to explain to anyone why you won't kill, why you won't use others, why you don't "go with the flow" witthout at some point saying "Because it is evil!" I know you'd probably like a better answer, but in truth, that is the answer. It is sin. The world is collapsing upon itself because of our murderous, selfish, vain, obstinate, treasonous, conniving, fraudulent selves. Maybe if we, like the Ninevites, put on sackcloth and ashes, some of this "collusion" would dissipate. But until then, grab another box of popcorn, as it were.
Maybe we need to get the word out sinning is not cool and virtuous. I bet that could help push the pendulum.
