I did it as I used to be a firm believer too, however my thinking is that it takes us totally off the right track. The people who created us were our parents. But little honor goes to that. I was talking to a neighbor once decades ago and we got onto the abortion topic. She was pro and I opposed. In the middle of the conversation she looked at me and said, "I had an abortion." My response came quickly without any hesitation"....does not matter because I still love you." That ended it all. It is not my way to attack and name call or condemn any woman who has had an abortion. I oppose it but I do not have the authority to condemn them though I often use common sense to make fools of liberal loons.
My perspective in this is to offer a side rarely defended and as you already know I was with my wife to be in her stolidity to not acquire one that we agreed had both placed each of us in that situation. We never discussed it. We were onside. And if she had rejected the child I would have paid her to birth the child and with the help of hired women raised him myself. And she well knew that.
It is my belief that God gives each of us a soul at the moment of conception. In health in high school the teacher (Mr. Woods) taught us we are made of many minerals and lots of water. I used this statement to lever my argument that this mixture cannot of its own accord suddenly become a life. Thus the only possible conclusion was that He had given us each a spirit (soul) and at the appointed time merely moves his hand of protection back to let death take us. I have seen people die, both parents. Neither were afraid of dying and in my mind dying is but a transferral according to scriptures where according to Ecclesiastes 12 reference is made to the "silver cord" which I accept as being verses 6 a reference to the soul and verse 7 that states "...and the spirit shall return to God who GAVE it." I am thus logical. A pile of minerals and some water cannot be living unless by a supernatural power and thus I attribute this to God logically. I have run the gammut away back His existence and there is much that I accept proving His existence. Without a belief in Him I am condemned for only His Son can grant forgiveness.

It is really not fair to others as my belief also came by events in my life that I could not explain nor could witnesses understand why I was still alive. Nor did I know but there is a reason now I am sure for why I did not die on many occasions. There is a reason and a purpose but it took awhile for me to ascertain. Am I special? No. I am different. What I found interesting was the fervor of atheists, people who say they don't believe in God, yet several of them said to me "I believe in the vaccine"!! - based on what? The word of big pharma? There was no proof or evidence of benefit, whereas the Bible (which they dismiss) prophesied historical events from the Babylonian Empire to Medo-Persia, to Greece and the Roman Empire, it predicted the birth of the Messiah to the year (as well as His place of birth, name etc) , the rise and fall of the papal system (its demise in 1798 being predicted also to the exact year and predicted it's comeback), the rise of the US etc.
In fact all prophesy has been fulfilled until now and we are living in the time of the end. Everything is in place for the coming "time of trouble, Such as never was since there was a nation, Even to that time. And at that time your people shall be delivered, Every one who is found written in the book" (i.e. the names of those who chose to live by the precepts of the Bible are written in the book of life).

I'm an atheist and I know what you mean. Basically the vaccine adherents are scared of dying. They have a deep rooted fear and that's why they talk about safety, safety, safety all the time.
