Update11/16(0730ET): With the summit wrapped up, and Xi's plane headed back to Beijing, the Chinese government on Thursday issued its first reaction to Biden calling Xi a "dictator" - which it should be emphasized was said while Xi was literally still there in San Francisco (if not still in the same venue or building):

President Joe Biden’s description of Chinese leader Xi Jinping as a dictator is “extremely wrong,” Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Mao Ning said Thursday at a regular press briefing in Beijing.

Washington and Beijing will restore communication channels between their respective militaries, US President Joe Biden told reporters following his meeting with Chinese President Xi Jinping in the San Francisco Bay area on Wednesday.

“We’re back to direct, open, clear, direct communications,” Biden said, adding that the contacts would help avoid accidents and misunderstandings during a period of tense relations between the two nuclear-armed states. 

U.S. House Buildings Locked Down After Pro-Palestine Protestors Rush DNC Building

U.S. House buildings went into lockdown, and lawmakers were evacuated after pro-Palestine protestors clashed with police officers at the Democratic National Committee headquarters.

Hundreds of demonstrators reportedly blocked the main entrance of the building and Capitol Police told congressional staff they “working to keep back approximately 150 people who are illegally and violently protesting,” according to Axios.

US President Joe Biden again firmly aligned himself late Wednesday with Jerusalem’s position on the duration of the war against Hamas, saying Israel can go on until it achieves its goal of eliminating the Gaza-ruling terror group’s ability to endanger Israelis.

In a televised press conference following his long-anticipated meeting with China’s Xi Jinping, Biden said Israel’s operation in Gaza, following the shock Hamas massacres in southern Israeli communities last month, “will end when Hamas no longer maintains the capacity to murder, abuse, and do horrific things to the Israelis.”

Israel's military up till now has sought to present southern Gaza as some kind of safe zone as it pushed Gazans to evacuate the northern half of the Strip to pave way for the ongoing ground and aerial assault. But all the while there have still been intermittent airstrikes on southern Gaza, after some one million or more civilians have been internally displaced. 

New leaflets have been mass dropped over the Strip warning towns located in southern Gaza that inhabitants must evacuate. "Palestinians in parts of southern Gaza said they received evacuation notices Thursday," the AP reports.

Hamas has reportedly agreed to a deal that would see the release 50 hostages being held in Gaza in exchange for a three-day pause in fighting, according to a Wednesday report.

Reuters’ report, which cited an unnamed Qatari official, was the latest in a series of accounts in recent weeks suggesting that a large hostage deal is imminent. According to those reports, Israel would release a number of Palestinian women and minors currently jailed and boost humanitarian aid entering Gaza in exchange for the hostages.

Israel moves Dead Sea Scrolls to bunkers

The Israeli government has moved many artifacts and museum pieces to bunkers. This is the first time this protocol has been initiated since the 1991 Gulf War.

“Even if there’s a very small possibility [of damage], we don’t play around — we don’t take chances,” said Doron Lurie, senior curator and chief conservator at the Tel Aviv Museum of Art.

Fifty-nine U.S. troops have been injured across 56 attacks since Oct. 17.

Fifty-nine U.S. troops have been injured in 56 attacks on American assets in Iraq and Syria since Oct. 17, the Pentagon confirmed on Tuesday.

Twenty-seven of those suffered traumatic brain injuries, Fox News reported.

On Sunday, the United States struck two Iran-linked sites in Syria in response to the attacks on American forces, according to U.S. Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin.
