Europe is living in a “pre-war era,” the Polish prime minister says

Europe's peaceful era has ended, Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk has said, painting a grim picture of the future arising from tensions with Russia. “The times of peace are over. The post-war era is over,” Tusk said at a meeting of the European People’s Party (EPP) in Bucharest, Romania on Thursday. “We are living through new times – the pre-war era.” The fight against totalitarian trends, corruption, and lies is taking place on many fronts. The most dramatic illustration of this is, of course, what is happening in the war in Ukraine,” the prime minister continued.

A NATO stealth fighter has been certified to carry nukes including the terrifying B61-12 thermonuclear gravity bomb as tensions between NATO and Russia hit a boiling point. The F-35A Joint Strike Fighter has become the first stealth fighter of its class to be green-lit to carry nuclear weapons. A spokesperson for the F-35 Joint Program Office told Breaking Defence: "The F-35A is the first 5th generation nuclear-capable aircraft ever, and the first new platform (fighter or bomber) to achieve this status since the early 1990s.

NATO Moving Missiles Closer to Russia's Borders

NATO countries are implementing a rotational air defense model stationed in Lithuania in response to calls from the Baltic states to boost Europe's defense capabilities in the region.

According to Lithuanian Defense Minister Arvydas Anušauskas, who spoke about the defense model at a press conference Thursday, the defense systems will be operational in his nation later this year. NATO countries agreed to creating a rotational system—in which allied countries would deploy air defense systems to the Baltic states for a period of time—during the Vilnius NATO Summit in the summer.

The Russian military intercepted 47 Ukrainian fixed-wing drones overnight, the Defense Ministry said on Saturday morning. No fatalities were caused, according to local officials. The ministry said one UAV was shot down over Belgorod Region, two over Kursk Region, three over Volgograd Region, and 41 over Rostov Region. Vassily Golubev, governor of Rostov Region, wrote on Telegram that local air defense units had repelled a large-scale assault. Several UAVs were destroyed while approaching the city of Morozovsk.

China and Switzerland are working behind the scenes to get Russia invited to proposed Swiss-hosted talks aimed at ending the fighting between Kiev and Moscow, the South China Morning Post reported on Friday, citing people familiar with the matter. Last month, Switzerland announced plans to organize a peace summit “by the summer.” No specific date has been named yet.

Zelensky Rejects Proposed Peace Summit, Negotiation With Russia

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky rejected Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan's idea to hold a peace summit with Russia's participation.

"We don't see Russian representatives at such a summit," Zelensky said at a joint conference with the Turkish leader in Istanbul, reiterating his old thesis that a peace plan should be prepared by other countries without Moscow's participation - an idea already repeatedly rejected by Russia. Recep Tayyip Erdogan said that Ankara is ready to host a peace summit on Ukraine with Russia's participation. He recalled that the Black Sea Initiative prevented a global food crisis.

However, relations have recently been “showing signs of wear and tear” and “might be stuck in a bit of a rut,” the newspaper reported on Thursday.

North Korean leader Kim Jong Un guided a large-scale live-fire artillery drill involving a unit Pyongyang says is capable of striking Seoul as it prepares for 'actual war' with South Korea, the North's state media said Friday.

The tyrant was pictured on Thursday wearing a black leather jacket, looking on over columns of self-propelled artillery systems firing into the sky in unison in a startling show of force. The drills involved border units 'that put the enemy's capital in their striking range,' Pyongyang's official Korean Central News Agency (KCNA) said, referring to Seoul.

The combined force of almost 20,000 troops will guard a 532-kilometer stretch of the border in the states of Uttarakhand and Himachal Pradesh, the officials told the outlet.

US Navy shoots down 15 UAVs in Red Sea area, CENTCOM says

US Navy ships and aircraft shot down 15 uncrewed aerial vehicles (UAVs) fired by Yemen's Houthis in the Red Sea area early on Saturday, US Central Command (CENTCOM) said.

The military was responding to a large-scale attack by "Iranian-backed Houthi terrorists" launched into the Red Sea and Gulf of Aden between 4 a.m. and 6:30 a.m (1300-1530 GMT), CENTCOM said in a post on X.

Faulty US Aid Drop Kills At Least 5 Palestinians In Gaza City

At least five Palestinians were killed and one other wounded after a faulty aid drop in Gaza City on Friday. 

The casualties occurred following a botched attempt to drop humanitarian assistance from a plane, which ended up landing in a residential area in Sheikh Radwan, northwest of Gaza City, according to Al-Jazeera. Videos captured by local journalists showed over a dozen packages dropped from a plane falling at a great speed near the al-Fayrouz Towers area.

According to the reports, the parachutes on the humanitarian aid packages did not open.

The US military has denied reports on Friday that Gazans were killed when they were struck by their airdropped packages, Israeli media reported. The United States Army said that they were aware of reports of Palestinians killed as a result of being hit by humanitarian aid packages dropped from the air. However, the army continued to say that contrary to reports, the death was not caused by American shipments.

With civil order increasingly strained in Gaza and Hamas-backed municipal police refusing to provide security to convoys because of the risk of being targeted by Israeli forces, the issue of secure distribution of supplies has become a major problem.
