Secretary Blinken Warns: ‘Most Dangerous Moment for Middle East’

Biden administration vows to retaliate but officials say the US is not seeking a war with Iran.

Secretary of State Antony Blinken warned that the ongoing conflict in the Middle East, which escalated after a drone strike killed three U.S. soldiers in Jordan, appears to be the region’s ’most dangerous’ period in about 50 years.

Speaking to reporters on Monday, the top U.S. diplomat said: “This is an incredibly volatile time in the Middle East. We’ve not seen a situation as dangerous as the one we’re facing now across the region since at least 1973, and arguably even before that,” according to a State Department transcript of a press conference he held with NATO’s secretary-general.

"Multiple" Arizona National Guard troops were wounded in a drone strike that killed three U.S. troops and injured dozens in northeast Jordan near the Syria border on Sunday, according to a spokesperson for the unit.

Three Guard troops were being medically evacuated for further care but were expected to recover. The U.S. Department of Defense identified the three soldiers killed as Sgt. William Jerome Rivers of Carrollton, Georgia; Spc. Kennedy Ladon Sanders of Waycross, Georgia; and Spc. Breonna Alexsondria Moffett of Savannah, Georgia.

An American F-16 fighter jet has crashed in waters near South Korea, the US military has confirmed. The incident marks the third time a US war plane has gone down in the region in less than a year. People across the country have been experiencing issues with access to websites on the .ru domain

Russia experienced a massive internet outage on Tuesday as people in several parts of the country reported trouble accessing various websites, including banking services, telecommunications operators, e-commerce stores, and even state services. It turned out that access to websites using the national .ru domain was blocked. The problems were reported in and around Moscow, in St. Petersburg, Tatarstan, Sverdlovsk Region in the Urals, and Novosibirsk Region in southern Siberia, among other locations.

Both were charged with the illegal sale of state gifts while Khan was prime minister from 2018 to 2022.

In a move that would once again punish those who entered the country legally, the state of New York is mulling a plan to hire around 4,000 'migrants and asylum seekers' into mostly entry-level jobs that are allegedly 'hard to recruit for,' according to a Jan. 12 memo from the Department of Civil Service obtained by Bloomberg.

The jobs in question would largely consist of areas like food service, equipment repairs, facilities management and office assistance, and would apply to those who have obtained a work permit, the memo states.

CDC Issues ‘Health Alert’ Over Measles Cases Across US

The agency’s alert said that between Dec. 1, 2023, and Jan. 23, it received reports of 23 confirmed measles cases.

The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) on Thursday sent a notice to health care providers to “stay alert for measles cases” after multiple outbreaks were reported in recent weeks along with an instance where an “international traveler” may have exposed thousands to the virus at two Washington-area airports.

The agency’s alert said that between Dec. 1, 2023, and Jan. 23 of this year, it received reports of 23 confirmed measles cases, “including seven direct importations of measles by international travelers and two outbreaks with more than five cases each.”
