US launches new round of airstrikes in Iraq
Washington has targeted Iranian-backed militias in response to attacks that injured American troops
The US military announced that it has carried out “proportionate” airstrikes against Iranian-backed militants in Iraq to retaliate for recent attacks on American bases in the region. The latest airstrikes targeting Kataib Hezbollah and affiliated militia groups in Iraq were launched just after midnight local time on Wednesday, the US Central Command (CENTCOM) said in a statement.
US military strikes two Houthi anti-ship missiles in Yemen
The US strikes are the latest against the Iran-backed group over its targeting of Red Sea shipping, and followed a larger round of strikes a day earlier.
The US military carried out more strikes in Yemen early on Wednesday, destroying two Houthi anti-ship missiles that were aimed at the Red Sea and were preparing to launch, the US military said in a statement. The US strikes, which took place at roughly 2:30 a.m. (2330 GMT), are the latest against the Iran-backed group over its targeting of Red Sea shipping, and followed a larger round of strikes a day earlier.
US remains quiet on Iran's efforts to resupply Houthis military capabilities after strikes
The Pentagon reiterated the White House's claim that its keeping a "close eye" on the Houthis resupply and refresh ratesThe Pentagon joined the White House on Tuesday in remaining elusive about Iran's efforts to resupply the Houthis after the US says it successfully destroyed much of the group's military capabilities.
However, the Pentagon says the Houthis still maintain some military capability and additional strikes against US targets are not out of the question. The Houthis haven't launched an attack against US targets since Jan. 18, which Pentagon Press Secretary Air Force Maj. Gen. Pat Ryder said is an effect of the US' pressure on the group.
One-month pause in Gaza fighting now a focus of hostage release talks, sources say
Sources tell Reuters that the gaps have narrowed between Israel and Hamas, but the terror group is refusing to move forward with plans for truce until permanent ceasefire is agreed
Israel and Hamas broadly agree in principle that an exchange of Israeli hostages for Palestinian prisoners could take place during a month-long ceasefire, but the framework plan is being held up by the two sides’ differences over how to bring a permanent end to the Gaza war, three sources told Reuters. Intense mediation efforts led by Qatar, Washington and Egypt in recent weeks have focused on a phased approach to release different categories of Israeli hostages — starting with civilians and ending with soldiers — in return for a break in hostilities, the release of Palestinian prisoners and more aid to Gaza.
Biden Not Able ‘Get the Job Done’ on Two-State Solution
The US, UK, Australia, Canada, Bahrain and the Netherlands carried out another wave of attacks on eight Houthi targets in Yemen on Monday in response to ongoing attacks on commercial vessels in the Red Sea. According to the Pentagon, they hit troop housing and damaged the Houthi missile and air surveillance capabilities.
Dr. Hasan Unal, a professor of political science and international relations at Bashkent University in Ankara, Turkiye told Sputnik’s Fault Lines that he cannot see the US objective in the region clearly and that the country's actions “may actually disrupt the whole shipping in the region as a result of the US-led military action against the Houthis.”
Hamas bigwig rejects 2-state solution, says Oct. 7 ‘revived dream to free Palestine’
Qatar-based billionaire Khaled Mashaal remains indifferent to Gaza’s destruction, insists terror group will not relinquish its goals, says recognition of Israel is a red line
Senior Hamas official Khaled Mashaal has dismissed the possibility of a two-state solution and said that his terror group’s devastating October 7 assault on Israel proved that liberating Palestine “from the river to the sea” is a realistic idea. In an interview with Kuwaiti podcaster Ammar Taki last week, Mashaal, a former top leader of the terror group, said that there is “nearly a consensus” among Palestinians that they will not give up their rights to the land stretching “from the Jordan River to the Mediterranean Sea” — that is, the West Bank, Gaza and all of Israel.

Ties between Moscow and Washington are unlikely to improve, even if Donald Trump wins the upcoming 2024 US presidential election, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov told CBS in an interview that aired on Tuesday. The former US president had previously repeatedly boasted about his good relations with Vladimir Putin.
America’s general approach towards Russia has not changed over the past decades, Lavrov said, adding that Washington itself had ruined its relations with Moscow by dismantling all the “confidence-building” mechanisms and eroding mutual trust.

Turkey Approves Sweden's Accession To NATO After 20 Month Delay
After nearly two years of delays, Turkey's parliament finally agreed to ratify Sweden's NATO membership bid on Tuesday, clearing the biggest remaining hurdle to expanding the Western military alliance following the Ukraine war. Turkey's general assembly, where President Tayyip Erdogan's ruling alliance holds a majority, voted 287-55 to approve the application that Sweden first made in 2022 to boost its security in response to "fear" that Russia would invade it, when in reality Russia invaded Ukraine in response to the encroaching NATO expansion that is now taking place.

On Tuesday, the German outlet Berliner Zeitung reported on the quotes Leijtens gave to another publication, Die Welt, the day before. Rather than simply implementing the EU’s migration rules, the Dutch official has advocated for “more humanity” and less “xenophobia and prejudice.”

Where Is The Ark Of The Covenant Today, And Will It Be Revealed To The Entire World Soon?
When the discovery of the Ark of the Covenant is publicly announced, it will be hailed as the greatest archaeological bombshell in the history of the world, and it will also be extremely significant spiritually. But getting it out of the chamber where it is hidden will not be easy. There are at least 45 major tunnels directly underneath the Temple Mount, and many of them are very unstable. Any efforts to do any sort of major digging could cause one or more of those tunnels to collapse.
