North Korea fires missiles toward Japan
The weapon test comes just one day after Seoul launched a solid-fuel rocket as part of a plan to monitor the DPRK from space
North Korea has fired three short-range ballistic missiles into the Sea of Japan, according to South Korean and Japanese defense officials, who condemned the show of force as a threat to regional stability.
The South Korean military’s Joint Chiefs of Staff (JCS) detailed the latest missile launches on Saturday, as cited in local press reports, saying the three projectiles were fired around 8am from the DPRK’s North Hwanghae Province, located south of the capital.

Türkiye has agreed to fully withdraw its troops from northern Syria following tripartite talks involving Moscow, Ankara and Damascus earlier this week, Syrian newspaper Al-Watan has reported.
The three countries’ defense ministers – Hulusi Akar, Ali Mahmoud Abbas and Sergey Shoigu – met in Moscow on Wednesday for the first meeting of its kind since the outbreak of the Syrian conflict in 2011.
US Arms Sales to NATO Allies Almost Double in 2022: Report
Apart from sending arms to its NATO allies, the Biden administration also continues to supply Kiev with weapons, something that Moscow warns will only further aggravate the Ukraine conflict.
The number and price of arms sales approved by Washington to its NATO allies almost doubled in 2022 as compared to 2021, a US magazine has reported.
The outlet noted that last year, the US government approved 14 possible major arms sales to its allies in the alliance, worth about $15.5 billion. In 2022, the figure soared to 24 potential major arms sales with price tag of around $28 billion, including $1.24 billion worth of arms sales to possible new NATO member Finland.

Earlier this month, Merkel described Minsk as “an attempt to give Ukraine time” to build up its military. Speaking with the Kyiv Independent, a pro-government Ukrainian outlet, Hollande agreed, saying Merkel was “right on this point.”
Russia To Supply Iran With 24 Advanced Sukhoi Fighter Jets
Starting a week ago reports began emerging in Middle East regional media, including in both Iranian and Israeli news sources, that Russia will soon provide Islamic Republic with dozens of Sukhoi Su-35 fighter jets. Israeli reports are even citing "Western intelligence officials" in making the claim.
Iranian state Tasnim wrote days ago that "Iran will soon receive 24 of the fourth-generation twin-engine, super-maneuverable fighter jets that are primarily used for air superiority missions," in what seems to be some level of confirmation.

Iran Holds Military Drill Near Strategic Strait of Hormuz
Iran’s military on Friday kicked off its annual drill in the coastal area of the Gulf of Oman and near the strategic Strait of Hormuz, state TV reported, even as the authorities continue their crackdown on anti-government protests that have been underway for over three months.
The strait is located at the mouth of the Persian Gulf and is crucial to global energy supplies, with about a fifth of all oil traded at sea passing through it.

It was intercepted near the moshav of Zarit (population around 250), which is located close to the Lebanese border in Upper Galilee. The drone was identified as a quadcopter, a small device with four rotors.

Scotland’s Parliament passed a bill last week that, if enacted, will allow citizens as young as 16 to be legally recognized as transgender without requiring a gender dysphoria medical diagnosis.
Known as the Gender Recognition Reform (Scotland) bill, the measure was passed in a vote of 86 to 69. The proposed legislation still awaits royal assent.
The bill makes Scotland the first region of the United Kingdom to approve self-identification, or self-declaration, for changing gender.
