Russia warns of potential gas 'disaster' for Germany
Further problems with pumping units may lead to the shutdown of the Nord Stream pipeline, Moscow says
Russia’s EU Ambassador Vladimir Chizhov warned on Thursday that repair issues with Nord Stream pipeline's pumping turbines could result in a complete stoppage of natural gas supplies to the EU.
Such a scenario would be “a disaster for Germany,” which has a high level of dependence on gas deliveries via the pipeline, he told RIA Novosti news agency at the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum (SPIEF).
European leaders arrive in Kiev
Premiers of Germany, France, Italy and Romania had traveled overnight on a train to get to the Ukrainian capital
German Chancellor Olaf Scholz, French President Emmanuel Macron, Italian Prime Minister Mario Draghi, and Romanian President Klaus Iohannis arrived by train in Ukraine’s capital Kiev on Thursday morning. This is the first visit for each of them since the start of the Russian military operation in Ukraine in late February.
According to the Italian newspaper La Repubblica, Scholz, Macron and Draghi had to cross the Poland-Ukraine border on foot, had slept “in bunks” and held a late-night “summit” in their train carriage during their 11-hour-long trip to Kiev from the Polish airport of Rzeszow Jasionka.
In Shock Decision, SNB Hikes Rates For First Time In 15 Years, Warns It May Sell Billions In Stocks
While Goldman had flagged a strong possibility of a hike, the magnitude of the hike - 50bp rather than 25bp - was also a surprise to market expectations. But the true bombshell is that as part of the decision, the SNB also adjusted its language on potential currency intervention by dropping the one-sided commitment to guard against currency depreciation, implicitly signalling the potential for foreign asset sales to further strengthen the Franc.
This is a problem for US stocks because as the bank's latest 13F filing shows (yes, the SNB files its stock holdings like any other hedge fund), it owns some $177 billion in US stock (and hundreds of billions in other securities), which it may now proceed to sell to keep the Swiss Franc stronger. In his press conference introductory remarks Chairman Jordan also reversed the previous stance on the currency, saying that the "Swiss franc is no longer highly valued".
Pound Tumbles After Bank of England Hikes 25bps In Split Decision, Drops Guidance Of Future Rate Hikes
Moments ago the Bank of England hiked rates for the 5th straight time, raising interest rates by 25bps to 1.25% in a split 6-3 decision, with 3 members - Haskell, Mann and Saunders - calling for an even bigger, 50bps hike saying faster policy tightening now would help to bring inflation back to the target sustainably in the medium term and reduce the risks of a more extended and costly tightening cycle later. Ahead of the announcement, 34bps of tightening was priced in, so the move comes roughly in line with expectations. The BOE also dropped guidance around a future rate hike - it had previously stated that "some degree of future tightening in monetary policy may still be appropriate - which was viewed by the market as dovish and hammered cable.
"Ticking Time Bomb" Begins As Major US Railroads, Union Labor Seek Biden Intervention Amid Rail Shutdown Concerns
Negotiations between major railroads and their unions have stalled, setting up for what could be a significant railroad shut down before the midterm elections that could paralyze an already-strained US supply chain.
Railway Age reports the National Mediation Board (NMB) on June 14 began what could be a "ticking time bomb" toward a national railroad shut down within 90 days, following its board of three, two Democratic members agreeing with rail labor and NMB's only Republican disagreeing that means a voluntary agreement to amend unionized rail worker wages, benefits and work rules won't be achievable.
Fog of war: U.S. slaps down Russian claims that arms meant for Ukraine went missing in Syria
U.S. officials are pushing back hard against Russian claims that American anti-aircraft missiles meant for Ukraine have begun showing up on the illicit arms market in Syria.
Intelligence and diplomatic sources say the claims are a textbook case of Kremlin disinformation aimed at undercutting U.S. and allied support for arming Ukrainian forces while diverting criticism of Russia’s invasion.
In another page from the recent Russian playbook, Chinese state media have quickly piggybacked on the Kremlin claims in recent days, amplifying conspiracy theories about the backing that the U.S. and its allies have provided for Ukraine in response to the Russian military assault.

Every state but Florida pre-ordered COVID-19 vaccines for kids under 5
Every state has placed an order with the federal government to ensure coronavirus vaccines for young children are delivered as soon as regulators authorize their use — except for one. Florida missed a Tuesday deadline to request delivery of COVID-19 pediatric vaccines for children under 5, guaranteeing a delay in access for parents across the state, according to two U.S. government sources.
All other 49 states placed pre-orders, which will be delivered in two tranches beginning as early as Monday to thousands of pediatricians’ offices, children’s hospitals, pharmacies and health centers across the country. Those facilities in Florida will not have access during this time and will remain without supply until Florida places an order.
Pfizer Documents reveal at least 800 people never finished the COVID Vaccine Trial due to Death, Injury or Withdrawn Consent
One of the confidential Pfizer documents that the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has been forced to publish by court order reveals that approximately 800 people never completed the phase 1 Pfizer Covid-19 vaccine clinical trial in the USA due to either losing their life, suffering a serious adverse event or suddenly withdrawing their consent.
The US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) attempted to delay the release of Pfizer’s COVID-19 vaccine safety data for 75 years despite approving the injection after only 108 days of safety review on December 11th, 2020.
But in early January 2022, Federal Judge Mark Pittman ordered them to release 55,000 pages per month. They released 12,000 pages by the end of January.
