CLAIM: UKRAINE USES CLUSTER BOMBS ON TOKAMAK - Russia to Respond in-kind; "Third World War is Approaching"

The Deputy Chairman of the Russian Security Council, Dmitry Medvedev, warned that "the Third World War is approaching," stressing that Russia will respond to a bombing carried out by Ukraine with cluster munitions.

Medvedev wrote via "Telegram" that the preliminary results of today's "NATO" summit were identical to Russia's prior expectations, pointing out that the special military operation will continue with the same goals, and that the most important of these goals is to reject Kiev's efforts to join NATO.

Blinken: Ukraine Will Be "Defenseless" Without US Cluster Bombs

Secretary of State Antony Blinken while at the NATO summit in Lithuania is promoting a message that Washington essentially had no choice but to arm Ukraine with cluster munitions because the country would have been "defenseless" with them. 

He gave an interview to MSNBC’s "Andrea Mitchell Reports" and asserted that Ukraine's own stockpile of cluster bombs and artillery is running out, even merely exhausted.

It was Ukraine, rather than the mutiny of Russian private military company Wagner, that was the main subject of talks between CIA Director William Burns and Sergey Naryshkin, the head of Russia’s foreign intelligence service SVR, the Moscow official told media on Wednesday.

The phone call between the two intelligence chiefs took place in late June and was first reported by Western media, including The New York Times and The Wall Street Journal. The outlets said Burns wanted to assure his Russian counterpart that the US government had nothing to do with the then-ongoing mutiny by businessman Evgeny Prigozhin, the commander of the private military force.

Wallace Admits UK, Allies Were Building Ukraine's Military Capability Before Conflict

MOSCOW (Sputnik) - UK Defense Secretary Ben Wallace said on Wednesday that the United Kingdom, the United States, Canada and Sweden had been investing in Ukraine and building up the country's military capabilities before the start of the conflict in February 2022.

"Ultimately culturally it is accepted that Ukraine will join NATO. When that happens is either condition-based. Also, before ...[the conflict started in February, 2022], Britain with Sweden, Canada, the United States were investing in Ukraine and building their capabilities," Wallace said at a news conference during the NATO summit in Vilnius.

Kiev will be permitted to join the US-led bloc “when allies agree and conditions are met”

NATO has reaffirmed its readiness to grant Ukraine membership at some point in the future. A joint statement released during the annual summit of the US-led bloc said Kiev would be invited to join only “when allies agree and conditions are met,” but it will be allowed to bypass the so-called Membership Action Plan that is usually required for candidate members.

“We reaffirm the commitment we made at the 2008 summit in Bucharest that Ukraine will become a member of NATO, and today we recognize that Ukraine’s path to full Euro-Atlantic integration has moved beyond the need for the Membership Action Plan,” the statement read.

Two former Pentagon officials told Sputnik that despite Kiev’s constant pleadings, the NATO powers are less likely to support Ukraine’s admission into the alliance than ever before, and are positioning themselves to only give Kiev certain benefits if it prevails in its conflict with Moscow.

At the NATO summit in Vilnius, Lithuania, on Tuesday, the alliance decided to drop the Membership Action Plan (MPA) procedure for Ukraine, which laid out a customized list of reforms and guidelines by which the country’s application for membership might be considered. While doing so could make it easier for Kiev to join the alliance, the NATO powers have rejected the possibility that Ukraine would be invited to join before the conflict with Russia is over.

These accounts, Kozbanets said, were “suspected by the SBU of spreading fear and disinformation.”

Zelensky launched his broadside on Tuesday as NATO began its summit in Vilnius, Lithuania. The Ukrainian president cited “signals” he had received which indicated Kiev would not be granted an invitation of any sort to join the bloc.

As if to prove to the world that Ukraine can count on them, the United Kingdom government vowed to support President Volodymyr Zelensky's troops with war weapons including tanks – though it only has 40.
