World’s Largest Aircraft Carrier to Remain Parked off Coast of Israel

US Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin ordered the USS Gerald R. Ford, the world’s largest and the US’s newest aircraft carrier, and USS Normandy, a Ticonderoga-class guided-missile cruiser, to remain in the Mediterranean Sea for several more weeks to maintain a two-carrier presence near Israel. This is the third time that the aircraft carrier’s deployment has been extended since it arrived in the region “as part of the U.S. effort to keep the conflict from spreading”.

Major shipping companies are rerouting vessels from the Red Sea to the Cape of Good Hope to avoid Houthi drone and missile attacks. New shipping data indicates a significant decrease in commercial vessel activity on the critical global trade corridor connecting to the Suez Canal, responsible for 12% of international trade and almost one-third of global container traffic.

The incident follows drone and missile attacks in the Red Sea by Iran-backed Houthis on commercial shipping.

An Israel-affiliated merchant vessel in the Arabian Sea off India's west coast was struck by an unmanned aerial vehicle, causing a fire, British maritime security firm Ambrey said on Saturday. The fire on the Liberian-flagged chemical products tanker was extinguished without crew casualties in the incident 200 km (120 miles) southwest of Veraval, India, it said.

Tehran has provided tactical intelligence critical to Houthi strikes in the Red Sea, according to the White House

The United States has accused Iran of being “deeply involved” in attacks by Houthi rebels on commercial ships in the Red Sea. Tehran has provided drones and missiles to the Houthis, as well as tactical intelligence “critical in enabling” the strikes, the White House has said.

Since last month, Yemen’s Houthis have launched multiple drone and missile attacks on international shipping in the Red Sea, disrupting maritime traffic.

Pentagon's Operation Prosperity Guardian "Falls Apart" As Spain, Italy, France Reject Request   

Australia is the latest country to reject a request from the United States to send warships to the Red Sea under the command of the Pentagon's Operation Prosperity Guardian to protect commercial vessels along the critical maritime trade route from Iran-backed Houthi. 

Defense Minister Richard Marles told Sky News that Australia's military would not send a "ship or a plane" to the Red Sea but would triple the number of troops for the US-led maritime force. 

Pentagon Alarmed Over Huge Price Tag Of Countering Cheap Yemeni Drones

Concerns about the high cost of countering the threat posed by the Yemeni armed forces in the Red Sea are growing in the Pentagon, according to US defense officials who spoke with Politico.

Sanaa has reportedly fired at least 100 drones toward Israeli-linked commercial vessels for the past month in support of the Palestinian people. US estimates place the cost of the domestic-made drones at $2,000 each.

Khamenei attacked the Arab countries that took part in the international force against the Houthis, "this is treason", a senior Iranian general threatened a naval blockade in the Mediterranean.

After the report of the Israeli-affiliated ship that was attacked west of India, Iran's leader Ali Khamenei called on the countries that take part in the international force established to deal with the threats of the Houthis, not to take part in it.

"It is the duty of the Islamic countries to prevent the sending of oil, fuel, and goods to Israel," he noted.

The United Nations Security Council voted Friday to pass a resolution that calls to immediately speed up the delivery of humanitarian aid into Gaza while also “creating the conditions” for an end to the Israel-Hamas war.

The resolution “calls for urgent steps to immediately allow safe, unhindered and expanded humanitarian access and to create the conditions for a sustainable cessation of hostilities.”

Israeli authorities have announced the death 73-year-old Gadi Haggai while in Hamas captivity, an Israeli-American dual national who had been kidnapped Kibbutz Nir Oz on October 7.

The kibbutz made the announcement Friday but without specifying how it came by the information. Israel's Missing Persons Families Forum also issued statement while saying his body is still being held in the Gaza Strip. "Gadi was a man full of humor who knew how to make those around him laugh. A musician at heart, a gifted flautist, he played in the IDF Orchestra and was involved with music his whole life," the statement said.
