Russian gas production slowing – media
Energy major Gazprom reported lower output amid falling EU consumption
Natural gas production in Russia declined by 11.6% in November compared to the same period last year and totaled 612.9 billion cubic meters (bcm), Vedomosti newspaper reported on Sunday, citing sources in the Energy Ministry.
The decline announced earlier by state-owned energy giant Gazprom has had a negative impact on the overall dynamics of output. The company saw gas extraction plunging by 19.4% in eleven months year-on-year to 376.9 bcm, Gazprom reported on December 1. The company attributed the decline to dwindling consumption in the EU.

EU officials have discussed a new sanctions package against Russia over the Ukraine conflict, Politico reported on Monday. The potential additional restrictions include nearly two hundred listings linked to key Russian industries, including the technology, financial, and media sectors.
The European Commission is said to have arranged “confessionals” over the weekend to prepare what would be the ninth sanctions package against Moscow.

In the end, the report of an output hike (which some interpreted as a gesture of good will from Saudi crown prince MBS who had just received immunity from the Biden regime), proved to be indeed fake news, but likewise any expectations of further output cuts were dashed when earlier on Sunday OPEC+ agreed to stick to its oil-output targets just two days after G-7 nations agreed to a $60 price cap on Russian oil, despite mounting concerns about oil demand as the world in swept up by a global recession and as new Covid-related lockdowns in China and lingering uncertainty over Russia’s ability to export crude have sent the price of oil sliding.
