NATO states offer ‘heavier’ arms to Ukraine
Members of the military alliance agreed to step up weapons shipments to the government in Kiev
The NATO bloc will send “heavier” weapons to Ukraine and replace the country’s Soviet-era gear with more modern equipment, UK Foreign Secretary Liz Truss said following a meeting by member states in Europe.
Speaking to reporters on the heels of the NATO summit in Brussels, Truss confirmed that the alliance agreed to ship more powerful armaments to Kiev as it resists Russia’s ongoing attack.
There was support for countries to supply new and heavier equipment to Ukraine, so that they can respond to these new threats from Russia,” she said on Thursday. “And we agreed to help Ukrainian forces move from their Soviet-era equipment to NATO standard equipment, on a bilateral basis.”

The Russian Foreign Ministry has called on Western nations to stop supplying Ukraine's armed forces with weapons in the wake of a missile attack on a train station in the city of Kramatorsk that killed dozens of civilians on Friday.
The ministry has requested that the international community “make an unbiased assessment” of the actions of the Ukrainian forces and “stop supplying them with weapons, as well as urge Kiev to abandon unacceptable fighting methods.”

Ukrainian nationalists have prepared a provocation by mining chemical depots at a plant in the city of Avdeevka and planning to blow it up when approaching the formations of the Donetsk People's Republic (DPR), Director of the Russian National Defense Management Center, Col. Russia began a special operation with the stated goal of putting an end to war crimes committed by Ukrainian troops against civilians during an eight-year offensive against Donbas. The Russian Defense Ministry said the operation is targeting Ukrainian military infrastructure only, but later accused Ukrainian forces of using typical terrorist methods, such as hiding behind civilians and positioning weapons systems in civilian areas.

The eccentric billionaire, who also owns Neuralink, a brain computer interface (BCI) company, told Business Insider that we could use a more advanced BCI to download our memories and personalities onto a computer chip, essentially creating a form of immortality.
The goal for Neuralink is not to download us into robots, at least not in the short term. Its plan is to help people with brain and spinal injuries. But when asked if he thought it was possible, Musk did not disagree.
“We could download the things that we believe make ourselves so unique. Now, of course, if you're not in that body anymore, that is definitely going to be a difference, but as far as preserving our memories, our personality, I think we could do that.”

The massive sanctions that Western nations have imposed on Russia since the start of its military operation in Ukraine only further erode the existing system of international institutions and the authority of the UN, former Russian President Dmitry Medvedev said in a Telegram post on Friday.
Initially, the word ‘sanctions’ only applied to measures imposed by the UN Security Council, he argued, adding that everything Western nations call ‘sanctions’ today is nothing but unilateral restrictions that cannot be seen as sanctions under international law.
Britain Unable to Pay for Russian Gas Deliveries
Britain is the only country to have imposed sanctions on Russia’s Gazprombank, through which payments for Russian natural gas are made. It is thus unable to pay for Russian gas after President Putin’s decree that this commodity must be paid for in rubles.
Foreign-currency accounts on the Moscow exchange for Gazprom customers were opened where currencies can be converted into rubles, but Britain has opted out of this arrangement. Europe has meanwhile not been able to present a united front regarding the US-imposed sanctions regime against Russia. Some countries will be hit harder than others. Hungary has already signalled its intention to ignore sanctions.
Slovakia, Bulgaria and Moldova have now agreed to pay in rubles while Latvia, Lithuania and Estonia have rejected payments in Russian currency. Other countries are still trying to arrange deliveries.
Dmitry Peskov, the press secretary of the Russian president Vladimir Putin, reminded the media of Britain’s hardline position:
“London wants to be the leader of everything anti-Russian. It even wants to be ahead of Washington! That’s the cost!”
Democrats Block Subpoena For Hunter Biden To Testify Before Congress
Democrats on the House Oversight Committee have blocked a Republican-backed subpoena to compel Hunter Biden to testify as a witness.
“Democrats just denied our motion to subpoena Hunter Biden,” the Republican members of the committee wrote on Twitter.
“They refuse to hold Hunter accountable for his shady business dealings that make us more dependent on China for renewable energy. It’s past time for accountability.”
Rep. Andy Biggs (R-Ariz.) made a motion to subpoena Hunter Biden, President Joe Biden’s son, as a witness at its hearing about making all U.S. Postal Service (USPS) vehicles electric.
“I just made a motion to subpoena Hunter Biden as a witness for the House Oversight and Reform Committee’s hearing on electrifying [the USPS],” Biggs wrote on Twitter. “Hunter sold a U.S. cobalt mine to a Chinese company. Cobalt is necessary for electric car production. Hunter’s expertise is invaluable!”

Authorities reported 21,222 new cases in Shanghai alone on Thursday, marking a 7th straight daily record. For context, the city reported more cases on Thursday than the entire country saw earlier in the week.

Moderna recalls thousands of COVID vaccine doses
Moderna said on Friday it was recalling 764,900 doses of its COVID-19 vaccine after a vial, made by its contract manufacturer Rovi, was found contaminated by a foreign body.
The doses were distributed in Norway, Poland, Portugal, Spain, and Sweden in January.
It said the contamination was found in just one vial, and it was recalling the whole out of “an abundance of caution.”

A company spokesperson told DailyMail.com that the restrictions, already in effect, stem from an 'increased demand and various supplier issues,' as it was revealed that 29 percent of all top-selling formulas are out of stock at stores across the nation.

Court Reinstates Vaccine Mandate for Federal Workers, But White House Delays Enforcement
A federal court on Thursday upheld the Biden administration’s COVID-19 vaccine mandate for federal employees.
The 5th Circuit Court of Appeals’ 2-1 ruling by U.S. District Judge Jeffrey Brown reversed Brown’s Jan. 21 injunction against the mandate.
In Thursday’s ruling, Brown also ordered the district court to dismiss the case.
Hours after the ruling, the White House told federal agencies to hold off on reinstating the mandates that would affect about 3.5 million workers.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) today released new data showing a total of 1,217,333 reports of adverse events following COVID vaccines were submitted between Dec. 14, 2020, and April 1, 2022, to the Vaccine Adverse Event Reporting System (VAERS). VAERS is the primary government-funded system for reporting adverse vaccine reactions in the U.S.
The data included a total of 26,699 reports of deaths — an increase of 303 over the previous week — and 217,301 of serious injuries, including deaths, during the same time period — up 2,780 compared with the previous week.
Excluding “foreign reports” to VAERS, 803,613 adverse events, including 12,304 deaths and 79,094 serious injuries, were reported in the U.S. between Dec. 14, 2020, and April 1, 2022.
