Putin Tells Military They Clearly Prevented Civil War

Vladimir Putin thanked all personnel of the Russian Armed Forces, as well as the country's law enforcement agencies and special services for their courage and loyalty to the Russian people.

Military units who took part in the suppression of the attempted armed mutiny on June 24, actually stopped a civil war in Russia, and acted clearly and harmoniously, Russian President Vladimir Putin said on Tuesday.

"You defended the constitutional order, and our citizens’ lives, security and freedom. You saved our motherland from turmoil, and in fact prevented civil war. In these difficult moments, you acted clearly and harmoniously; through your deeds, you proved your loyalty to the people of Russia and the military oath," Putin said, addressing the security forces who quashed the insurrection.

Earlier on June 26, Russian President Vladimir Putin delivered a speech about the recent events involving the PMC Wagner Group and its aborted mutiny.

In his address from the Kremlin, Putin praised the people of Russia who consolidated in the face of this threat, as well as soldiers and law enforcement officers who stood in the way of the mutineers.

He also thanked Wagner Group members who ultimately refused to cross the final line and initiate an internecine conflict in Russia that would have been the desired outcome for entities such as the “neo-Nazis in Kiev” and their Western sponsors.

Russian President Vladimir Putin has offered a choice to the soldiers of the Wagner private military company involved in Saturday's failed armed rebellion. They can either sign a contract with Russia’s Defense Ministry Ministry or other security agencies, return home or move to neighboring Belarus, the Russian leader said in a televised addressed.

"The overwhelming majority of the fighters and commanders of the Wagner group are also Russian patriots, devoted to their people and country. They proved this with their courage on the battlefield,” Putin said in his address on Monday evening.

US backs coup attempts whenever it can benefit – Lavrov

The US enthusiastically supports regime change whenever it can benefit from the process, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov has told RT. If a protest movement targets a government more pliant to American interests, Washington will inevitably reject it, the diplomat added.

There have been numerous attempts at regime change around the world in recent years and they were “met with a different response on the part of the US, depending on who was in power and who was trying to carry out the coup,” Lavrov said in an interview on Monday.

Update(1648ET): Within hours ahead of Putin's big speech Monday evening (local time), the Kremlin touted there would be several "major" announcements, but there was really nothing earth-shattering. In fact much of the fairly short address to the nation on the Wagner rebellion was a reiteration of prior Kremlin statements, and it didn't exactly appear 'tough'. 

While Putin stressed that "traitors will face justice" and that "we defeated a colossal threat" - he at the same time seemed to offer a bit of an olive branch. "At the same time we knew and know that the vast majority of the fighters and commanders of the Wagner group are also patriots of Russia, devoted to their people and the state," Putin said. He said Wagner fighters could sign contracts with the Russian army.

Blinken Hints At More Russia Unrest To Come: "We Haven't Seen The Last Act"

Secretary of State Antony Blinken suggested on Sunday that the US was expecting more unrest in Russia following Wagner chief Yevgeny Prigozhin’s two-day uprising.

"I think we’re in the midst of a moving picture. We haven’t seen the last act. We’re watching it very closely and carefully," Blinken told CBS News on Sunday.

When asked if the US was in touch with Russia about the crisis, Blinken said he instructed his team to engage with Russia to ensure "they understood their responsibilities in terms of protecting our own personnel."

Wagner mercenary leader Prigozhin defends ‘march on Moscow’

Wagner head Yevgeny Prigozhin released the first audio statement since an aborted armed rebellion he staged on Saturday. On Monday he defended the move as a reaction to an attack on his force that killed about of his 30 fighters. “We started our march because of an injustice. We went to demonstrate our protest and not to overthrow power in the country,” Prigozhin said in an 11-minute audio. He did not offer any details as to where he was or what his future plans are.

The Ukrainian military claims Russian forces attacked Kherson Oblast with 500-Kg guided bombs on June 25. Meanwhile, Former British General Lord Richard Dannatt has warned that the Wagner Group may lead an attack on Kyiv from Belarus. Russian President Putin says he keeps track of his ‘special operation’ around the clock. Chechen leader Ramzan Kadyrov has warned Wagner troops that his forces will “destroy” anyone considered a threat to Russia.

Belarusian opposition was ready to stage armed coup amid Russia crisis – Lukashenko

The opposition in Belarus was prepared to stage an armed coup amid the revolt by the Wagner private military company in Russia, but was prevented from fulfilling its plans, Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko has claimed, according to the state-run BelTa news agency.

Lukashenko said on Tuesday that his opponents had started “buzzing with activity” when Wagner launched its mutiny in the neighboring country last week. “But it was a false start,” he added.

MOSCOW (Sputnik) - According to the UN report, dozens of civilians were tortured "in official pre-trial detention facilities"

The United Nations has recorded a significant increase in law violations by Ukrainian security forces since start of Russia’s special military operation, the UN Human Rights Office (OHCHR) said in a report on Tuesday.

"Since 24 February 2022, OHCHR has documented a significant increase in violations of the right to liberty and security of person by Ukrainian security forces. Out of the overall number of such cases, OHCHR documented 75 cases 92 of arbitrary detention of civilians (17 women, 57 men and 1 boy), some of which also amounted to enforced disappearances, mostly perpetrated by law enforcement authorities or the Armed Forces of Ukraine," the report read.

Two rockets fired at Israel from West Bank for first time in 18 years

The rockets, which were fired from Jenin, exploded in Palestinian Authority territory. Israeli forces arrived at the scene and are investigating the incident.

Palestinians launched two rockets toward sovereign Israel from the Jenin area on Monday morning, the IDF reported. They landed inside Palestinian Authority territory without hitting any Israelis or Israeli locations. It was the first time a rocket was fired at Israel from the West Bank in 18 years.

One of the rockets fell five meters from the launch area, and the other landed 80 meters away, the IDF said. Although a review of the wreckage found that the rockets were full, no explosive materials were found in the wreckage.
