NYC Reports First Suspected Monkeypox Case As WHO Convenes Emergency Meeting
Update (1608ET): Officials in New York City say they are monitoring the state's first suspected case of monkeypox in a patient receiving care at Bellevue Hospital, where preliminary tests have been performed to confirm the disease, according to the Wall Street Journal.
So far, 87 cases have been confirmed worldwide and 57 are under investigation, according to the World Health Organization. Earlier Friday Israel became the 13th country to report a suspected case.

Europe should expect a wave of monkeypox cases in the coming months, according to Hans Kluge, the World Health Organization's top official on the continent.
“As we enter the summer season… with mass gatherings, festivals and parties, I am concerned that transmission [of monkeypox] could accelerate,” Kluge said on Friday.
The number of the infected could rise because “the cases currently being detected are among those engaging in sexual activity,” and many don't recognize the symptoms, he added.
The current spread of the virus in Western Europe is “atypical” as it was previously confined mostly to central and west Africa, the WHO regional director for Europe added.

Then I looked at Mayo Clinic site and they seem to be only interested in Hep A. So I moved to Health Line and they at least acknowledge there are five types that are caused by the five variations in the Hepatitis virus named, as one might guess, HAV, HBV, HCV HDV and HEV but also list likely or common transmission causes for each type; with Hep A being “exposure to HAV in food or water”, Hep B “contact with HBV in body fluids, such as blood, vaginal secretions, or semen” and Hp C “contact with HCV in body fluids, such as blood, vaginal secretions, or semen”, Hep D “contact with blood containing HDV” and finally Hep E “exposure to HEV in food or water”. They range from an acute, short term disease (A) to ongoing chronic conditions (C), and Hep D only occurs in people with Hep B while E is not prevalent in the USA and is usually only found where sanitation problems are severe (hello LA tent jungles).

The East African nation of Uganda is announcing plans to begin harvesting and tracking the DNA and biometric data of its citizens under an updated version of the country’s national ID program, which will see genetic information added to the ID cards that Ugandans are legally required to obtain.
Uganda began its national ID program in 2014, giving the cards a 10-year lifespan before they reach expiration. Under plans recently announced by the nation’s government, when cards start expiring in 2024, Uganda will begin to harvest the DNA of its citizens for use in the revamped national ID program, though it isn’t clear exactly how the government plans to extract the DNA from its citizens.

The case of Augusto Roux in Argentina suggests that in at least one instance, a trial participant whose symptoms were determined to be connected to the COVID-19 vaccine was later listed, in official records, as having experienced adverse events that were not related to the vaccination.
Vaccine trials in Argentina also appear to have glossed over adverse events suffered by other trial participants, and the potential connection between the adverse events and the vaccine.

In the abortion debate, it is obvious that a lot of people don't want a baby before it's born. But that is just a small step away from not wanting the baby after birth. A new law proposed in California seems to be pushing the limit in that direction.
Tagged AB2223, it appears to eliminate any criminal penalties for killing the baby any time before birth and for a short time after birth. The section of the law that is of the most concern reads:
“Notwithstanding any other law, a person shall not be subject to civil or criminal liability or penalty, or otherwise deprived of their rights under this article, based on their actions or omissions with respect to their pregnancy or actual, potential, or alleged pregnancy outcome, including miscarriage, stillbirth, or abortion, or perinatal death due to causes that occurred in utero.”

A tornado quickly moved through the town of Gaylord in the northern Lower Peninsula of Michigan Friday afternoon, leaving one person dead and 43 injured, officials said.
