CIA director weighs possibility of Russian nuke in Ukraine

Despite alarm in Kiev, William Burns said there is no “practical evidence” that Russia will deploy tactical nuclear weapons

CIA Director William Burns told a Financial Times conference on Saturday that the US’ intelligence agencies haven’t seen any “practical evidence” that Russian President Vladimir Putin will use tactical nuclear weapons in Ukraine. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has previously claimed that Putin could use such weapons.

“We don't see, as an intelligence community, practical evidence at this point of Russian planning for the deployment or even potential use of tactical nuclear weapons,” Burns said at the conference in Washington DC, repeating a similar assessment he made at the beginning of April.

However, Burns added that in his opinion, Putin “doesn’t believe he can afford to lose,” and the US should therefore “stay very sharply focused” on the potential nuclear threat regardless.

Stoltenberg: NATO will support Ukraine until its complete victory over Russia

NATO assumes that Russia's war against Ukraine will not end quickly, but Ukraine will win, and NATO will provide assistance.

As NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg told German newspaper Welt in an interview, NATO is determined to help Ukraine while Putin wages the war, "even if it takes months or years." At the same time, Stoltenberg wants to "do everything possible" so that the conflict does not expand.

In the coming days, according to Stoltenberg, "we can expect and must prepare for the Russian offensive and even greater brutality, even greater difficulties and even greater destruction of critical infrastructure and residential areas."

FDA Investigating Reports Of COVID Relapses Following Use Of Pfizer’s Pill

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) is investigating reports of relapses among people who took Pfizer’s COVID-19 pill.

The FDA “is evaluating the reports of viral load rebound after completing paxlovid treatment and will share recommendations if appropriate,” an agency spokesperson told The Epoch Times in an email.

In a recent preprint case report, Veterans Affairs researchers reported that a 71-year-old male who took the pill, also known as nirmatrelvir, experienced a “rapid and progressive reduction” in the viral load of SARS-CoV-2, the virus that causes COVID-19.

The baby formula shortage has intensified in recent weeks with at least 12 states facing 40 percent or higher out of stock rates as parents desperate to get their hands on formula face price gouging.   

The baby formula shortage, which began during Covid, got even worse following a February recall from Abbott Labs of Alimentum, Similac and EleCare formulas after five infants who used the formula contracted a Cronobacter sakazakii infection. One of the infants died as a result.

Since then the national out-of-stock levels jumped nine percentage points from 31 percent to 40 percent between April 3 and April 24, according to an analysis from Datasembly, which tracked baby formula stock at more than 11,000 retailers.
