Russian Defense Ministry Denies Reports About Ukrainian Counteroffensive

MOSCOW (Sputnik) - The statements made by military correspondents claiming that Ukrainian troops broke through Russian defense lines in the special military operation zone are not true, the Russian Defense Ministry said on Thursday.

"The statements shared by individual telegram channels about ‘defense breakthroughs’ that took place in various parts of the contact line do not correspond to reality. As of 22.00 May 11, 2023 [19:00], no active operations are underway in the Kupyansk direction," the ministry said, adding that two Ukrainian attacks were repelled in the Lyman direction.

Washington is reluctant to follow Britain’s example and deliver longer-range missiles to Ukraine in part due to concerns over training and maintenance, US Secretary of State Antony Blinken said on Thursday. His statement came after the UK confirmed that it was supplying Kiev with Storm Shadow cruise missiles that can hit targets over 250 kilometers (155 miles) away. 

“Different countries will do different things, depending on their own capacities,” Blinken told PBS NewsHour, adding that the US had “provided some things uniquely to Ukraine through this process.”

(Natural News) Canada has expressed its intent to join the AUKUS military bloc consisting of the U.S., the U.K. and Australia – albeit limited to non-nuclear aspects.

CDC warns that Drug-resistant ringworm detected in the US for the first time

For the first time, two cases of highly contagious drug-resistant ringworm infections have been detected in the United States, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. The CDC says the infections were found in two patients in New York City who did not improve with treatments.

A second person, a 47-year-old woman, had developed a widespread pruritic eruption in the summer of 2022 while in Bangladesh. After returning to the U.S., she was prescribed multiple treatments without improvement. Both women required weeks of therapy to rid themselves of the infection.
