US Tried to Fund Biolabs in Ukraine as Early as 2005, Records Show
Moscow has unveiled evidence that Kiev ordered several bio laboratories, which received US funding, to destroy samples of dangerous pathogens. Russia's Defence Ministry says it has proof that these biolabs were working on biological weapons targeting certain ethnicities. Both Kiev and Washington deny it.
The US government has been dodging questions for some time about the fact that it funded biolabs in Ukraine, until Under Secretary of State for Political Affairs Victoria Nuland admitted on 8 March that Washington did provide assistance to these laboratories (but still avoided confirming accusations by Russia that Kiev developed biological weapons there). It is not clear what took the US so long – especially since it knew perfectly well about at least one such lab for more than a decade.
Thanks to the work of the US Armed Forces' Counterproliferation Centre, a media clipping was preserved from 17 June 2010, telling how then-US Senator Richard Lugar "applauded the opening of the Interim Central Reference Laboratory (ICRL) in Odessa, Ukraine".
Crimean Authorities Expose US Plans to Set up Biolab on Peninsula
Earlier this week, Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said that the US-funded biolabs in Ukraine engaged in the development of components for biological weapons. The biolabs were spotted by Russian troops amid Moscow's ongoing special military operation in Ukraine.
The US considered opening a biolab in Simferopol before the Crimean Peninsula's reunification with Russia, Georgy Muradov, the permanent representative of the Republic of Crimea under the Russian president, has told Sputnik.
"Biological weapons have been developed for years in the Pentagon's secret laboratories located on Ukrainian territory. This is no news for Crimean residents, given that the US [previously] planned to create the same lab on the peninsula. Only the reunification of Crimea with Russia in March 2014 stopped the implementation of the plans to create pathogens on Crimean territory", Muradov stated.

On Friday, the United States prohibited the exportation, re-exportation, sale, or supply, directly or indirectly, from the United States, or by a United States person, of US dollar-denominated banknotes to the Russian government or any person located in Russia. The White House is ramping up economic pressure on Russia over the war in Ukraine.
This presents a serious problem for Russia, which is a major oil exporter, as most oil contracts are settled in US currency.
US won’t track citizens who travel to Ukraine to fight
The State Department has discouraged Americans from traveling to Ukraine, but said it won’t stop them
Washington has no plans to keep track of US citizens who volunteer to fight for Ukraine amid the ongoing Russian attack, the State Department said, warning, however, that such trips can result in “capture or death.”
“When Americans travel abroad they are not required to register with the Department of State in any way, so these are not metrics we would track,” State Department spokesperson Ned Price told reporters on Friday, when asked how many Americans have traveled to Ukraine amid Kiev’s recruitment campaign for a “foreign legion.”

Israel Records First Polio Case in 33 Years, Doctors Fear ‘Outbreak’ After Jerusalem Sewage Tests
Israeli doctors have confirmed the first clinical case of polio in the country in more than 30 years, and now fear more cases may not yet have been detected after testing Jerusalem’s sewage system.
A four-year-old girl in Jerusalem was confirmed diagnosed with Poliomyelitis on Sunday, the Israel Ministry of Health announced. The girl had not been vaccinated against the contagious virus, which is most commonly spread between humans by fecal matter, although in certain circumstances the live virus contained in the vaccine can also cause infections.

All eyes on Ukraine, China flexes in South China Sea
Amid Russia’s ongoing invasion of Ukraine, China has begun flexing its muscles in a clear show of force to regional rivals.
Over the weekend, Beijing announced that it will increase its defense spending by 7.1% to US$229 billion, up from 6.8% last year. This brings official Chinese defense spending to $229 billion, a whopping figure dwarfing all other regional rivals’ defense budgets combined and second only to the United States globally.
China’s actual defense spending is likely significantly higher, with some measurements putting it as high as $600 billion in recent years.
Defense giants quietly making billions on Ukraine war
The Russian invasion of Ukraine has been widely condemned for its unjustified aggression. There are legitimate fears of a revived Russian empire and even a new world war. Less discussed is the almost half-trillion dollar defense industry supplying the weapons to both sides, and the substantial profits it will make as a result.
The conflict has already seen massive growth in defense spending. The EU announced it would buy and deliver 450 million euros of arms to Ukraine, while the US has pledged US$350 million in military aid in addition to the over 90 tons of military supplies and $650 million in the past year alone.

Since the Russian assault began, countries from Hungary to Indonesia have moved to bar the door to exports, corralling grains and cooking oils to feed their own and risking a round of trade protectionism that could deepen global supply and price woes. Around the world, food prices were already rising fast amid supply chain disruptions and pandemic-era inflation.

Sudden deaths of Rod Marsh, Shane Warne, Kimberley Kitching trigger Australia's Federal Health Minister to issue warning
Australian Federal Health Minister Greg Hunt has encouraged people over the age of 50 to go out and get their hearts checked after the deaths of Shane Warne and Labor Senator Kimberley Kitching – both 52 – last week. Rod Marsh, a former Test cricketer, also died recently on March 4 from a heart attack, aged 74.
“It is a tragic reminder of the risks that people face in their 50s. And it is important to have our heart checked,” said the Health Minister.
“There was no person in the Parliament with a better sense of humour, or who laughed more. A great loss to the Parliament, to the nation, but above all else, to her husband Andrew and her broader family and friends,” added Hunt.
Ms Kitching had been feeling unwell on Thursday and pulled her car over to the side of the road before experiencing a fatal heart attack.

VAERS data released Friday by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention included a total of 1,168,894 reports of adverse events from all age groups following COVID vaccines, including 25,158 deaths and 203,888 serious injuries between Dec. 14, 2020, and March 4, 2022.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) today released new data showing a total of 1,168,894 reports of adverse events following COVID vaccines were submitted between Dec. 14, 2020, and March 4, 2022, to the Vaccine Adverse Event Reporting System (VAERS). VAERS is the primary government-funded system for reporting adverse vaccine reactions in the U.S.
The data included a total of 25,158 reports of deaths — an increase of 331 over the previous week — and 203,888 reports of serious injuries, including deaths, during the same time period — up 3,557 compared with the previous week.
Excluding “foreign reports” to VAERS, 783,282 adverse events, including 11,505 deaths and 75,286 serious injuries, were reported in the U.S. between Dec. 14, 2020, and March 4, 2022.
Foreign reports are reports foreign subsidiaries send to U.S. vaccine manufacturers. Under U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) regulations, if a manufacturer is notified of a foreign case report that describes an event that is both serious and does not appear on the product’s labeling, the manufacturer is required to submit the report to VAERS.
Israel’s Bennett advised Zelensky to surrender to Russia but Zelensky refused
Prime Minister Naftali Bennett told Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenksy that he recommends Ukraine take the offer made by Russian President Vladimir Putin to end the war – which includes many Ukrainian sacrifices – in a phone call on Tuesday, according to an official in Ukraine’s government.
According to the official, Zelenksy did not take Bennett’s advice. The source claimed that the phone call was initiated by Bennett. “If I were you, I would think about the lives of my people and take the offer,” Bennett reportedly said. Zelenksy’s response was short. “I hear you,” he said.
According to the Times of Israel, The prime minister’s office denied the claim. “If I were you, I would think about the lives of my people and take the offer,” Bennett told Zelensky during a phone call on Tuesday, according to the Ukrainian official, who spoke to Walla and Haaretz on condition of anonymity.

At the start of this week, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration announced that it had made a low-risk determination for the marketing of products – including food – from two genome-edited beef cattle and their offspring after determining that an intentional genomic alteration did not raise any safety concern.
The genomic alteration? Well, the IGA at hand results in cattle having the short-hair or “slick” coat seen in some conventionally bred cattle. The FDA reports that scientific literature indicates that cattle with this trait are potentially able to better withstand hot weather.
