Google suspends engineer over sentient AI claim
Blake Lamoine is convinced that Google’s LaMDA AI has the mind of a child, but the tech giant is skeptical
Blake Lamoine, an engineer and Google’s in-house ethicist, told the Washington Post on Saturday that the tech giant has created a “sentient” artificial intelligence. He’s been placed on leave for going public, and the company insists its robots haven’t developed consciousness.
Introduced in 2021, Google’s LaMDA (Language Model for Dialogue Applications) is a system that consumes trillions of words from all corners of the internet, learns how humans string these words together, and replicates our speech. Google envisions the system powering its chatbots, enabling users to search by voice or have a two-way conversation with Google Assistant.
Lamoine, a former priest and member of Google’s Responsible AI organization, thinks LaMDA has developed far beyond simply regurgitating text. According to the Washington Post, he chatted to LaMDA about religion and found the AI “talking about its rights and personhood.”
Moscow responds to idea of sending nukes to Ukraine

The idea of supplying nuclear weapons to Ukraine amid the ongoing conflict between Kiev and Moscow amounts to provoking a “nuclear conflict in the center of Europe” and is downright insane, Russian State Duma speaker Vyacheslav Volodin said on Sunday.
The official responded to the remarks made by Radoslaw Sikorski, a Polish MEP and former foreign minister, who said the West was in its “right” to do so.
“With such MPs, the Europeans will have much more serious troubles than those they have already faced today – refugees, record inflation, energy crisis,” Volodin said in a social media post.
US Naval Air Forces Orders "Safety Pause" For Aircraft After Deadly Southern California Crashes
The U.S. Naval Air Forces Public Affairs announced a one-day "safety pause" for non-deployed aircraft after a series of crashes in Southern California this month led to the deaths of a Navy pilot and five Marines.
"As a result of recent crashes involving U.S. Navy and Marine Corps aircraft, Commander, Naval Air Forces has directed all non-deployed Navy aviation units to conduct a safety pause on June 13 in order to review risk-management practices and conduct training on threat and error-management processes," the Naval Air Forces said Saturday in a press release.

Biden reverses Trump’s recognition of Jerusalem as Israel’s capital – Report
A report in the Washington Free Beacon cited sources in the State Department confirming that the Biden administration will move forward with establishing a new Office of Palestinian Affairs in Jerusalem that will act independently of the US ambassador to Israel’s office there. This move goes against the expressed wishes of the Israeli government. Still, the Biden State Department is going even further, opening an official Palestinian consulate in Jerusalem wholly independent of the US embassy in Israel. This consulate will act as a de facto embassy to the Palestinian Authority in Jerusalem, a move that violates international law.

Zelensky's representative explained why the West should supply more weapons and prevent Putin from winning.

Peter Sands, the executive director of the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis, and Malaria, told Reuters in an interview on Tuesday that the next global health crisis is food shortages. Rising food and energy prices could kill millions both directly and indirectly, Sands said.
“Food shortages work in two ways. One is you have the tragedy of people actually starving to death. But second is you have the fact that often much larger numbers of people are poorly nourished, and that makes them more vulnerable to existing diseases,” he said according to a report by U.S. News.
Military Official Predicted mRNA COVID-19 Vaccines Might Be Paused Over Heart Inflammation
A U.S. military official predicted a pause in the administration of the Moderna and Pfizer COVID-19 vaccines could happen if more cases of post-vaccination heart inflammation were detected, according to newly obtained emails.
Harry Chang, a U.S. Army lieutenant colonel, made the prediction on April 27, 2021—the same day the director of the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) said the agency was not seeing a safety signal when it came to heart inflammation experienced after getting a COVID-19 vaccine.
Chang noted the pause in the administration of the Johnson & Johnson vaccine over blood clots and said an increased number of heart inflammation issues could trigger a similar action.

The findings appear in a pre-print study (not yet peer-reviewed) by world-renowned virologist and AIDS discoverer Dr. Luc Montagnier (who died in February), neurologist Dr. Claire Moret-Chalmin and Dr. Jean Claude Perez.
The study, titled “Towards the emergence of a new form of the neurodegenerative Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease: 26 cases of CJD declared a few days after a COVID-19 ‘vaccine’ jab“, reports in detail on 26 of the 50 cases of CJD reported in France and Europe which emerged “very soon after the injection of the first or second dose of Pfizer or Moderna vaccines”. The authors say this is unexpected as “usually this disease takes decades to manifest itself”.
