Alaska Airlines cancels nearly 25 flights out of Paine Field due to 5G restrictions
EVERETT, Wash. – Alaska Airlines canceled nearly 25 flights Monday at Everett’s Paine Field because of 5G.
The airline confirmed 23 flights into and out of Paine Field were canceled because FAA restrictions mean the Embraer E175 airplane can not land in poor weather or low visibility because 5G could possibly interfere with systems.
This plane is flown by Alaska Airlines’ sister carrier Horizon Air and partner SkyWest. Alaska Airlines did confirm there could be more cancellations, delays or diversions at airports where there is low visibility.

CNN confuses Ukraine with Russia
The US cable channel labeled a prominent city in Ukraine “Russia” during its interview with NATO chief
Amid allegations by US intelligence of an impending “Russian invasion”of Ukraine, the cable channel CNN has already altered the country’s borders, labeling the eastern city of Kharkov a part of Russia.
The label appeared on CNN International’s show on Tuesday, as anchor Christiane Amanpour interviewed NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg on the current situation in Europe.
Showing footage of armored vehicles driving through a winter landscape, sourced to the Russian Defense Ministry, CNN put up a location label that said “Kharkiv, Russia.”
DEVELOPING: Lab monkey missing from truck crash spark fears it was ‘infected’ after woman who touched it has fallen sick
A truck crash in the US involving the transportation of around a hundred monkeys to a laboratory has sparked infection fears after a woman who came in contact was warned over diseases.
The test monkeys were on their way to a laboratory in Florida when the truck crashed into a garbage truck on Friday near Danville, Pennsylvania, with four of the primates escaping. The incident allowed four monkeys, confirmed to be macaques, the chance to make a break for it as they managed to escape from their containers.
According to FOX 56 Wolf TV, three monkeys were captured and “humanely euthanized according to American Veterinary Association guidelines” but the reports only sparked further concerns.
The next COVID variant is popping up in Washington state and spreading fast
State health officials Monday said BA.2, the newest variant of COVID-19, has been detected in Washington state, which is still grappling with a surge in cases from the omicron and delta variants.
A representative for the Washington State Health Department said in an email that the state has already logged two confirmed cases of the newest variant, which were found earlier this month. According to the World Health Organization, the newest variant of the coronavirus has been reported across the globe and is spreading fast.
The health organization said BA.2 was first discovered in December and has been difficult to detect. Gov. Jay Inslee has activated dozens of officers of the Washington State National Guard to help mobilize treatment for patients suffering from the omicron variant, which has proven to be more infectious but not as lethal as the delta variant.
Insurance Companies Note Jump In Death Payouts Amid 40% Rise Among Prime-Age Americans
Insurance companies are reporting a jump in death payouts due to a dramatic rise in the number of deaths. The rise in the death rate is being corroborated by death certificate data from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).
The death rate is up by 40 percent from pre-pandemic levels according to Scott Davison, chief executive of OneAmerica, a major insurance company based in Indianapolis. During an online news conference on Dec. 30, 2021, Davison said the change was unprecedented.
“We are seeing, right now, the highest death rates we have seen in the history of this business,” he said.
OneAmerica sells life insurance to employers nationwide, and similar figures are found throughout the industry.
“The data is consistent across every player in that business,” Davison said. “And what we saw just in the third quarter—we’re seeing it continue into the fourth quarter—is that death rates are up 40 percent over what they were pre-pandemic. Just to give you an idea of how bad that is, a three-sigma or a one-in-200-year catastrophe would be a 10 percent increase over pre-pandemic. So 40 percent is just unheard of.”
Analysis: What Would a Confrontation Between Russia and NATO Look Like?
"What would a conflict between Russia and NATO look like? In short, not like anything NATO has prepared for.
Time is the friend of NATO in any such conflict—time to let sanctions weaken the Russian economy, and time to allow NATO to build up sufficient military power to be able to match Russia’s conventional military strength.
Russia knows this, and as such, any Russian move will be designed to be both swift and decisive.
First and foremost, if it comes to it, when Russia decides to move on Ukraine, it will do so with a plan of action that has been well-thought out and which sufficient resources have been allocated for its successful completion. Russia will not get involved in a military misadventure in Ukraine that has the potential of dragging on and on, like the U.S. experience in Afghanistan and Iraq. Russia has studied an earlier U.S. military campaign—Operation Desert Storm, of Gulf War I—and has taken to heart the lessons of that conflict.
Some American Schools Have Installed Surveillance Software to Monitor Students’ Emails, Online Chats, and Assignments
Remote Learning Ushered In A New Era Of Online Academic Surveillance. What’s Next?
Academic surveillance software monitors students’ messages and assignments for clues that they might be contemplating suicide or violence.
According to a recent survey from the Center for Democracy and Technology, around 80 percent of K-12 schools are now using software that tracks students’ computer activity. Companies like Gaggle and GoGuardian offer teachers and administrators the ability to monitor students’ online activity while on school accounts or devices and will flag warning signs for suicide or violence.
That same survey found that the vast majority of teachers and parents believe the benefits of the software outweigh the risks and about half of students are comfortable being monitored.
DEFEATED, FOR NOW: JOE BIDEN SUFFERS CRUSHING LOSS AND IS FORCED TO WITHDRAW COVID-19 VACCINATION MANDATE FOR LARGE PRIVATE COMPANIES
The decision comes less than two weeks after the Supreme Court blocked the rule, dealing a major blow to President Joe Biden's attempts to use the power of the federal government to combat the Covid-19 pandemic. OSHA's regulation required businesses with 100 or more employees to ensure their workers are fully vaccinated or undergo regular testing and wear face coverings at work. "After evaluating the Court's decision, OSHA is withdrawing the Vaccination and Testing ETS as an enforceable emergency temporary standard," OSHA wrote in a document set to be published in the Federal Register.
EXCLUSIVE: Unvaccinated Pennsylvania Prisoners Stuck in Lockdown
Unvaccinated inmates in Pennsylvania’s state prisons are being held in lockdown conditions indefinitely unless they submit to vaccination. It means they must stay in their cells 22 hours a day.
The Pennsylvania Department of Corrections, which oversees state prisons, denies lockdowns are related to vaccination.
“Out-of-cell time may vary based on a number of factors, but inmates are not—and have not been—locked down based on vaccination status,” Pennsylvania Department of Corrections Press Secretary Maria Bivens told The Epoch Times in an email. “Vaccination among the inmate population is voluntary, and approximately 90 percent of inmates have been vaccinated against COVID-19.”
Pennsylvania offered inmates $25 in commissary credit as an incentive to get vaccinated.
Bivens did confirm that unvaccinated inmates are housed in a separate unit from the vaccinated population.
